We've had 8 days in February were the low was below -30 (coldest was -35.7) while there was no days in January were the low got into the minus 30's.

Also not a single day this month were the high got above 0, highest this month was -3.3. Haven't had a day above 0 here in 36 days and it doesn't show us getting above 0 until the third week of March.

And so ends a really cold month of February in the Winnipeg Region.

Normal average high for entire month of February = -8 Celsius
Average high for month of February 2015 = -14 Celsius

A whopping 6 degrees Celsius difference.
Hope March is better.

Got up to -2C in Moncton today. It's sunny, but it's filtered sunlight, so not much melting out.

More snow tomorrow, but only 5-7 cm so I guess we can handle that.

..as the snow cover melts away in the west, its fascinating to see the delineation line between where there is no snow and huge depth of snow in Canada.. also really interesting to see places with over two feet of snow in Eastern parts!

Montreal records coldest February in history

Quote:
Environment Canada says Montreal has endured the coldest February ever recorded, and although the worst is likely over, there is still more winter weather to come.

The city averaged a temperature of -15 C last month, beating out a 1979 record of -14.5 C.

February, 2015 is now the warmest February at YVR (Vancouver airport weather reporting station) since 1958. Just missing that mark by 0.1 C. And that is significant.

1958 was the warmest and sunniest spring, summer, and fall (consistently) that YVR has ever seen. A relative of my came over from Europe that year and still remarks about it. Many 1958 YVR heat records still stand.

Crossed fingers that the summer of 2015 at YVR will be akin to 1958.

That should bode well for Calgary too this year. Haven't had a month with an average high below freezing since last March. Gotta be close to a record

Pretty nice start to the last month of Winter today, made it to 1 degree. Calling for temps ranging from -15 to +12 this week, with 5 of 7 days above freezing.

I hope not.

That year was a massive forest fire season across the province, easily one of the largest on record.

Don't forget that it doesn't have to get particularly hot on the coast before certain groups start suffering... Most people on the area don't have AC. The hot weather is really hard on the elderly.

As well, everyone who wasn't directly on the coast faced absolutely sweltering heat that year. My 90 year old grandmother still goes on about summer that year living in Kamloops to this day.

According to Environment Canada historical weather, between May and September 1958, Kamloops had 74 days with highs above 30 degrees.
During the same period, YVR reported 41 days with highs over 25 degrees. While that doesn't seem like much, mean temps were running in the low 20's through most of July, which is closer to what the daytime highs should be.
For comparison, last year's relatively warm summer had only 12 days above 25 degrees at YVR during the same period.

I just got back from my two week southern Taiwan visit. Everyday sunny. Never a high below 25c. Lowest temperature it reached was 19c one night. Man, coming back to a 5c, grey and gloomy Shanghai wasn't ideal. I'd move to southern Taiwan (Tainan or Kaohsiung) tomorrow if there were better job prospects besides teaching English. Taipei's economy is more diverse, but their winter —.

Before I left, I rediscovered Tainan Park. I think I came here twice in the three years I lived in Tainan. I'm an idiot. Tainan Park is a such jewel in the middle of the city.

I know some of you are green thumbs, and love to see what kind of flora grows where, so here are a few pictures of the park, and the extremely diverse plant life that can grow in this region.

One of the nondescript entrances to the park.

This guy's probably going to join one of the countless majong games happening in the park.

There's a ton of seating and shade all throughout the park. It's really well planned.

The water had just been drained from the pond. No idea why.

There are a number of wide open spaces.

This tree is unbelievable. My picture just doesn't do it justice. The branches went right over my head, and were shading the parked scooters on the sidewalk. The trunk was enormous.

I hope the pictures helped warm you up on a cold winter's morning.

^^^Congratulations to Vancouver and Montreal on their weather records! although one seems more to be proud of than the other :/

Likewise for my home town Chadillaccc.. looks like the last time our average high was below freezing was February..of last year..2014!

February this year has only been slightly colder than average for Edmonton. But funnily enough, it hasn't been THAT horribly cold to me. The lowest temp was -22.3 on Feb. 3, while the warmest day was up to +8.3 on Feb. 23. There were 11 days with highs above 0°C that month.

Right now, it's getting cloudier and cloudier now after a partly sunny morning. -10 and getting WINDY.

The forecast for later this week and next weekend is looking a lot better, though I'm not exactly holding my breath.

Up to +13 in the sunshine this afternoon in Victoria. Forecast is for much of the same all week - maybe in the high teens by the weekend.

In February we saw an average high just above 11, with an average low of 5/6. That gives us a mean temperature of 8! Pretty decent for just south of the 49th.

A sunny 9-10 in Vancouver today, but it felt a lot cooler with the wind. It felt cooler today and yesterday than it has over the last few weeks.

White Rock is the winner for February.

Average High: 12.2
Average Low: 5.7
Mean: 9

That is actually warmer than a few major Canadian city averages in April...

The interior of BC was also quite impressive (for in inland area)

Osoyoos:

Average High: 9.3
Average Low: 1.4
Mean: 5.4
