I would be surprised if another developer dipped their toes in the water at this time unless it is an entirely different model. Smaller cheaper condos aimed at first time buyers and singles that don't want to or can't afford to fork out $400k- $500k. Even then it would be risky.

Even the title is dubious, given that we've heard the Cornwall location will not be carrying fresh products (if I understood correctly). Though, they may be referring the to Broad St Shoppers as bringing groceries to downtown.

Yep it would be the Broad street one. The renos have already started, I was in there the other day and one of the staff told me the one in the Cornwall is not big enough and that is why it won't have the full offering of fresh products like the larger stores will.

Most of these Haliburton jobs pay well over $100k.

Also Evraz laid off a handful of steelworkers in their slitter line that cuts steel coils for smaller diameter oilfield country tubular goods (OCTG). Lucky for Regina, all of Evraz's OCTG's are fabricated in Red Deer and Calgary now. Those plant have had massive layoffs.

All the players in the SK oilpatch have suspended their capital programs or slashed spending by 1/2 or more.

More bad news to come unless something gives soon on the oil price.

If an industry expert is pulling out / closing shop in a MAJOR oil patch location. THEY know that things aren't turning around shortly. Or they would stay open with a small staff.

I think that is correct, but they call it "suspending operations". However because they are non-unionized, they can't just lay people off. They have to terminate them with notice and/or severance pay. That is a big decision as it is expensive and there is no assurance you can get these people back when things pick up.

The interesting thing is that many of these companies threw around money and spent like there was no tomorrow until very recently.

The more interesting thing is that once the prices go back up and production ramps up again they'll go back to doing exactly the same thing. Nature of the beast in some regards I guess.

Also another massive apartment complex for Harbour Landing with the minimum required parking. More parking headaches coming out there for sure.

There is a report on City Square Plaza utilization going to RPC this week. I hope someone takes the administration to task on this as the vast majority of the events are actually in the Park not on the Plaza. Also 600,000 attended Farmer's Markets? That is twice as many as attend Rider games. I call balls. The Plaza is still a huge failure.

I dunno. When you consider that it's twice weekly for many months... anytime I went there were lots and lots of people there. I'd bet it draws at least 5,000 per market. And the Market Under the Stars was really well attended too.

That doesn't change the fact that the Plaza is poorly planned though.

They claim 12,000 for each Famers Market and 7000 for each Market Under the Stars!

I would say 3-5000 on a nice day and far less in poor weather. Also, many of the people (such as me) are walking through on their way to the Park or elsewhere.
