My girlfriend is also aware that I follow the site. She's always stoked to hear about new developments in Calgary. I'm quite sure her opinion of the discourse over the last few pages would be quite similar to mine. It's just the way the way of the internet. People will argue passionately and get super offended over basically anything. If it's not skylines, it's operating systems, embroidery machines, or whatever else you can possibly imagine.

Real estate investing in Canada is a significant part of "my job" so keeping my finger on the pulse of what goes on is something I consider to be work-related, to a degree.

For many years I had been sticking to the Sherbrooke thread (and it honestly started as "work") but nowadays I'm keeping an eye on other markets (FYI, I decided to pass on Ottawa in favor of FL instead at this time, but a big thanks for the info

) and there's a nice bunch of information to be gathered from reading this forum.

People who are close to me (my dad, for example -- I work with him) know this place as "my real estate / architecture discussion forum".

Sounds slightly more professional than "that forum where people argue in circles about skylines for pages".

I always found it odd how they made those short little condo buildings (the ones with the cantilevered section on the top) when all the rest of the buildings on the central waterfront were sizable highrises. I wonder if there was a height restriction or something there...

Gatineau (Hull) is interesting, although not beautiful. The skyline reminds me of a sim city 2000 game that was paused after 35 Sim-years of intense playing. Mega-complexes in the uniquely 1970s governmental/institutional style, but altogether incomplete (even if it punches above its weight, skyline to demographic might, woot-woot and MolsonExportish).
