What are you talking about?? best in many aspects?? because it has surpassed passenger traffic by what? 500,000 people?.... because it has a couple taller towers than Montreal?... Calgary will never get the recognition that Montreal has. Don't try to say stuff when you can't back it up. Montreal has way too much to offer... the festivals...the density... the architecture.. the cultures etc... oh and 4.2 million people. This is what I mean.... you think by having a slightly busier airport and taller towers, you think thats IT!!! Calgary is number 1. Wait until Edmonton gets that 224m tower... yikes... I think I might have to avoid SSP.COM

I won't even talk about airports because YUL is a hub and YYC isn't.

Just for facts Rusty, the Montreal Metro transports the equivalent of Calgary's population daily... Think about it.

Montreal is a metropolis, Calgary simply isn't. It has nothing to do with skylines...

Following your logic, Calgary feels more like a big city than Berlin then?

Toronto definitely does not fit the description of a small downtown (or simply tall buildings) surrounded by suburbia.

You have the downtown core, Yonge and Bloor, Yonge and Ellington, Yonge and Shepperd, and smaller nodes in between and to the east and west. Along with countless retail streets within the city.

Even areas like Yonge and Lawrence, Ellington West, The Beaches, Danforth, or the Bayview and Leaside area aren't tall but are undoubtably urban.

Montreal is also very urban beyond its tall buildings.

Calgary, while taller than Montreal, seems to be more suburban beyond its tall towers (for the most part, excluding the Beltline)

Some of Toronto's most iconic neighbourhoods ( Kensington Market, Little Italy, Chinatown, Distillery, St Lawrence Market, Danforth, Beaches, etc.) aren't high-rise at all.

Calgary also has more of a dry cold compared to Montreal.

He said that^^

I didn't mean "small" downtown, worded it wrong. But hopefully you see my point.

The thing is, we have no methodology to approach this type of conversation, like this is not an academic setting. So, other's opinion is basically that, an opinion and I am trying hard to take it with a grain of salt.

you know, sometimes I wonder why I have to argue about this Montreal vs Calgary thing... all I know is, Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver are the top 3 and that's that. Have a fabulous weekend.

We're comparing a 4.2 million city to a 1.4 million city, of course the 4.2 is going to come out on top almost every time. But the fact that 1.4 is competitive in some aspects is impressive. That's why Calgarians fight back in these debates - because there are aspects where Calgary surpasses Montreal. This is what people are most proud of.

This debate pops up regularly in the skyline thread because one of those few aspects where Calgary comes out on top is in the tall tower department. And I don't think it's all that outlandish to claim that the city with taller towers has a better skyline. You might disagree but it's not a ridiculous claim.

And nobody said Calgary's #1. I think it's widely accepted that Toronto smokes the rest of Canada in almost every respect, with Montreal and Vancouver picking up the scraps.

Everyone says Calgarians are insecure but I'm starting to think Montreal's got us beat.

One thing people fail to take into consideration in these debates are the number of forumer from each city. They aren't proportional to the actual population of the city, or at least in terms of the number of people engage in these debates. So, that may be why we keep hearing the word "competitiveness."

@ Montreal guys - yep it's a photo I like and it's a skyline view I've actually seen. I can actually picture being in the city and enjoying the summer. Anyway I took it down as I don't want the rest of my post to be ignored.

Lol! My point was moreso that his claim was ridiculous, not that TO is a giant suburb,

Hasn't this been dragged out long enough? people should just agree to disagree and move on. I sometimes wonder why they bother having mods on this site. It's not like they ever do anything...
