The building is 6x4 bundled tubes in footprint, with the short side facing the park and the long side facing Indiana. IIRC they rise in a spiral pattern with the highest in the center, and the highest tier is two tubes together, just like Sears.

Wow, I stepped away from SSP for 2 days and now we're discussing a 800+ foot building on the South Wall of Grant Park. Gotta love a growing economy

as of now its just a rumor, but A&K is saying he/she is close with the project.

officially though its a rumor, until we see some kind of rendering or announcement

It's not my document to share, but in rough dimensions, there's a 170x270 podium x 120' tall, with a 100x100 tower x 675' tall at the SE corner above the podium. Three of the nine bays extend the full height, in an el layout. The steps are all pretty high up the tower, with the lowest at +563'. There's also a 300' tall wing along the full south elevation from the south edge of the tower, stepping down three times to about 130'. that wing is about 33' wide east/west.

BTW, this model several months old, so it's likely the dreaded VE process has changed things since.

now i'm confused, the three of you seem to be describing three similar, but different, towers.

who to believe?

Ardecila's description fits with what I am seeing. I think what he meant is that the shortside of the 'footprint' faces the park, long side of the footprint is along Indiana. The spiral configuration of the terminations is correct - with the two bundles together being on the park side - there is a single step back on the parkside near the top of the tower.

And just to clarify - I'm not close to the project - It's just out for preliminary bid and I happened to see it and wanted to share. It looks like they have put quite a bit of time into the schematics already so I have to assume that they will release the renderings soon. But who knows?

^ That's unfortunately along the lines of what I was picturing as well from the descriptions (not Chris', as my assumption - right or wrong - is that could be an older design version?). Not generally a fan of this type of spiral effect though.....would much prefer some sort of irregular, asymmetric and maybe 'random' step-backs.......A&K, Ardecila, is Steely on the right track here? (fingers crossed it's not....obviously no offense on the sketch-up!)

Perhaps if the 'steps' were staggered less regularly as they go up, it would look pretty cool (also heavily dependent on exterior cladding materials). This iteration (if close to the real deal) could look cool too, again depending on materials. I dunno.

your further away than the previous rendering. The massing is very A-symmetrical with a 'random' spiral of termination heights.

Sears tower with slightly more terminations and a bit more A-symmetrical -
