Enjoy it just don't expect any sympathy when you get your usual late spring early summer dumping of the white stuff.

Haha we don't really expect sympathy. And I wouldn't exactly call it usual either. Since I've lived here, last September was the only time it snowed noticeably out of season. I have heard of snow in June before, but the last time was like 10 years ago or so.

I've no problem admitting when our weather is —. That's half the fun of this thread. But today isn't one of those days. It's a fantastic January day.

Aaannnddd now the sun is completely gone lol. But it's just fog. It'll roll away and back again probably before I even click post on this reply.
Meh it was absolute — early this morning with all the wet slipperly slush everywhere, I won't retract that opinion in any shape or form.

However I'll agree its alright now that the slush has melted.

Granted still horribly overcasted.

We're gonna have to take this outside. In the slush...

But it is very overcast now, yes.

Enjoy today, it won't be this nice again until June.
Meh if I want to be positive I just wouldn't mention the weather, as much as I obsess over it I really don't care about the weather most of the time.

It's the lack of mobility that gives me the blues and early today was horrid.

Trying to stay dry going to an interview felt like mountain climbing.

The cold in my opinion is very superficial, st john's never get Canadian cold.

+11 in Vancouver/Burnaby with clear blue skies. Other than a couple big rainstorms, this has been a fantastic January.

Not true. The Calgary weather station recorded snow last May in fact (a whopping 15cm dump). May 2012 yielded another snowstorm in Calgary. There was a snowstorm the last weekend of May in 2010. June 2009 had a measure able snowfall in Calgary. But you probably forgot all that with your Calgary rose colored glasses.

I don't think you're really saying anything that contradicted him. He was talking about June - September.

May is certainly still snow season for Calgary (it is snowier than October on average). March and April are actually Calgary's snowiest months of the year, a time when most other cities hardly get any.

Despite all this, Calgary still has year round snow fall numbers very much in line with Toronto, and in fact has fewer days where the snow on the ground is greater than 5cm (albeit more days with at least 1cm).

Snow just doesn't stick around here, generally even through the entire winter.

Is it possible to present facts to other people without somehow insulting them at the same time on this forum.

And TorontoDrew's original comment was was that Calgary gets "late spring/early summer snowfalls". And the reality is... he was right. Chadillac was wrong to rush to a defence because a simple look into the weather history shows that Calgary REGULARLY gets accumulating snow in May and every few years in June.

On the second part, yes Calgary receives similar annual snowfall amounts compared to Pearson Airport in Toronto. Toronto gets 98% of their snow from November 15th to March 15th , whereas Calgary gets 98% of their snow from October 1st to June 1st. The season in Calgary lasts longer without a doubt, however the traditional winter months in Toronto are more wintery. It's a give and take... long drawn out winters with breaks in between, or a shorter more potent season with longer summers.

But that's beside the point. Im just saying... nobody should be denying that Calgary gets late spring snowfalls. Chad went on to say that hasn't happened in 10 years. That statement was incorrect on multiple accounts.

Well I'm just saying "out of season" as Chad used the term applies a bit differently to Calgary. Calgary's snow season is different from almost everywhere else. I don't call March-April-May spring in Calgary, it's still largely winter and our snowiest string of months (but it doesn't stick around really because the temperatures do get quite a bit warmer).

Snow in June to September is relatively rare, and that is out of season snowfall months for Calgary.

Spring is from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice. In Calgary and everywhere else too.

The correct way to say what you mean to say is "Calgary gets wintery weather throughout spring".

Totally innocuous comment sparking pedantic debate about nothing for the win! Stay classy, Canada section!

Made it to 5 today up from a forecast of 2, not bad. Heading up to 9 tomorrow.

Hey Vancouver... how YOU doin'?

Temperatures as of 7:00 a.m. Newfoundland Time:

And our version:

Wow, poor Boston and NYC! That's the coldest I've seen them this winter.

I hope it doesn't come here... but I'm sure it will.

Records for January 29:

High: 13.0C (1986)
Low: -23.3C (1957)

That is SO close to our all-time cold record of -23.8C.

And we have this vaguely ominous weather statement...

Quote:
Statements
5:18 AM NST Thursday 29 January 2015
Special weather statement in effect for:

St. John's and vicinity
Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements.
WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR!?

Looks like the country's weather is getting more in line with the usual patterns of the season.

^ The models do, at least now, indicate a return to seasonal average temperatures in the Great Lakes region around mid-February.
