Metro Vancouver hit 15.3 degrees, and sunny too. Almost beach weather in 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 January!

Check that. Langley hit 18 degrees.

Vancouver has been having really mild weather lately. The current forecast calls for temperatures to stay at 5 or above until the weekend; it already looks more like late February outside than late January.

It is not a city but Greenwood NS hit 20 degrees on November 24 and was 18.5 on Christmas Day this year.

Meanwhile here are the January daily values for Shearwater, which is the normal airport station that is used for local weather reports in Halifax: http://climate.weather.gc.ca/climateData...7-02|2015-01-25&Year=2015&Month=1&Day=26

Average high: +0.3

Baccaro, NS is averaging +2.3: http://climate.weather.gc.ca/climateData...6-01|2015-01-25&Year=2015&Month=1&Day=26

Made it to 12 today, not quite the 15 they were calling for but still quite nice. EC is still calling for 14 tomorrow, which could make it another record breaker. After that, we go down to single digits, then below seasonal for a couple days. Long range models are calling for another nice month in February.

The temperature has risen here in Calgary throughout evening. This is the current weather at 12:00am. I don't know if Calgary will be the hotspot for Jan 27th, but it looks to be the midnight hotspot

Not sure what you consider a "city" but Huntingdon, Quebec recorded 21.3C on November 24. We even had a humidex that day.

Lethbridge hit 20.0C yesterday. Pretty impressive to see a 20C in January. Not too far from Canada's all-time record of 22.2C in Niagara Falls on January 26, 1950 as well.

What a great thing to wake up to. 🞵🞵🞵🞵 this.

I was going to walk to work today too. Ugh.

Records for January 27

St. John's: 13.5 / -17.8
Charlottetown: 12.4 / -26.2
Halifax: 12.4 / -28.1
Freddy: 14 / -20.5
Quebec: 5.9 / -30.9
Montreal: 9.6 / -31.8
Toronto: 11.2 / -22.9
Winnipeg: 2.2 / -38.9
Regina: 5 / -43.3
Saskatoon: 6.1 / -45.6
Calgary: 13.2 / -40.6
Vancouver: 12.2 / -12.8
Victoria: 13.7 / -12.2

On the bright side, icebergs have been spotted near Lumsden. There's still quite some time before the season begins so it could be a sign of a great one to come. It's usually late May/early June when they're in that part of the province.

Snowmageddon has arrived!!

It's just beginning to snow in Moncton. It's windy and currently -10C. I'm at work, but making my escape plans. I kind of figure that if I don't leave for home by noon, I'll be here for the night.

Quote:
Blizzard warning in effect for:

Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
Blizzard conditions with occasionally near-zero visibility in snow and blowing snow today.

A low pressure system off the U.S. coast will intensify as it approaches the Maritimes today. Heavy snow over the southwestern Maritimes will spread northeastward to the rest of the Maritimes by this afternoon. Very strong northeasterly winds gusting to 100 km/h or possibly higher will give blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility today. General snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are expected with locally higher amounts possible. Over parts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island snow will mix with or change to ice pellets and freezing rain later this afternoon then rain in the evening. Elsewhere the snow will taper off overnight or Wednesday.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. If you become stranded in a vehicle do not leave. The vehicle offers a form of protection from the cold. A single person walking through the snow is harder to find than a stranded car or truck. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals.

Blizzard Warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Stay up to date with Weatheradio or your local media. Email reports of severe weather to [email protected] or call 1-877-815-9900. You may tweet reports using the hashtag #NBStorm.
Actual snowfall predictions for Moncton are in the vicinity of 45-50 cm.

The media here interviews people descended from Newfoundlanders in Boston and NYC whenever something is going on. They just had another guy call in to Backtalk from Boston. Apparently it's pretty bad there. He said NYC has been spared so that's the big media angle but Boston is buried, Cape Cod is fucked, and Nantucket has no power.

Snow finally arrived. We are getting 2-5 cm of snow and ice pellets followed by 10-15 mm of freezing rain and rain. Hopefully wake up tomorrow to less snow than we started with. And 8C.

Yes, very spring like here too. We're sitting at 10 to 13 just before lunch today...skies are clearing.

I thought someplace out east hit 20 in November... just couldn't remember where... I thought Newfoundland too??

Edit: Looks like Quebec had a 20 in November too... a 21 according to the post above... :0

Edmonton has been a similar roller coaster as of late, maybe not quite as extreme. The weekend isn't looking so nice though - lows could be -25 to -30

Another record breaker today at 14 currently, previous was 13.3 in 2011. Heading for a cold weekend around -10, with long range forecasts calling for an average high around 3 for February.

20C here in Cocoa Beach and sunny today. I even think it's cold-ish for the season.

I am not following the news but I'm a tiny bit worried that this snowstorm will dump a ton of snow over Sherbrooke, from what I caught on the news it's for the entire northeast...

Seconded, it's crazy to think we just saw a +20C in the Canadian Prairies in January!

Woah... from +20 to -10 in a single week? Yeesh people aren't kidding when they talk about Calgary weather being a giant rollercoaster.

It was very mild in the west yesterday...from up to 16+ in the Vancouver area to 20 in Lethbridge - southern Alberta.

Just got back last night from Maui, where it's been around 22-27 for daily highs, though the last few days and evenings were surprisingly cool and quite windy. Sat-Sunday nights in Lahaina felt like it was as low as 16 around sunset, especially when right by the sea. However, it was pretty sunny, with only one day that was mostly cloudy and drizzly.

Being back in Edmonton wasn't too much a shock, as it was around 0 to 2°C at the time when I landed at 2 am.

I am certainly not looking forward to the coming cold weather in store for Edmonton later this week, but at least we don't get such long cold snaps like those in Regina or Winnipeg.
