We maxed out at 13 today in Victoria I think. This is warm for January, overcast but still very nice. Yes flowers coming out here too, and bees! A little early... I needed to do some gardening this weekend...

The SW BC coast is supposed to have double digit highs until the end of the month.

According to some of our TV meteorologists, this is a combo. It's the Pineapple Express bringing the mild air, but it's actually warming further into Alberta because it is in fact creating a Chinook as it crosses the Rockies. We've had moderate west winds in Calgary, with extreme winds in the Rockies & Pincher Creek areas.

Forecast for tomorrow is 14, followed by 15 Monday, 5 Tuesday, 3 Wednesday, 1 Thursday, and -1 Friday. So yeah, things have been more than made up for. Too bad you can't use the Parody thread as your own personal douchebagfest anymore, eh?
No worries, you do that all by yourself with.almost every post and moreover with your avatar.

Yeah, I'm getting a sense that this winter will end up a lot like 2010. In other words it will be cherry blossoms in mid-Feb but no snow on the hills. Thankfully though, no olympics this time

Some places around the city have hit 20C Officially 17C at the airport, likely the hotspot of the country.

Today's temperature actually broke official records, hitting 17.2 degrees at Calgary International at 2:53 this afternoon.

A story about it on CBC...

Calgary Sunday temperatures break record high

Quote:
It may be the middle of winter but sun, shorts and Slurpees were the order of the day.

Environment Canada initially predicted a high of 13 C today but by 3 p.m. MT, the mercury was pushing 17 C.

The warm weather broke record temperatures — the highest on record was 13.1 C, set back in 2007.

Patios were open downtown and were full of people eager to revel in the temporary spring-like temperatures.

"I'm actually hot, we're gonna start complaining about the heat soon," said Tim Gilhuly, who was enjoying the weather downtown.

According to Environment Canada, the warm weather is expected to last in to Tuesday.

Lots of people along the river in Calgary today. I was too busy taking pictures of buildings, I should have taken some pictures of all the people....

-3C right now. Cloudy but blue between the clouds and lots of bright sunlight, know what I mean? It's not the usual grey haze.

Records for this date:

High: 13.6C 2000
Low: -18.3C 1949

And to compare.

Halifax: 12.9C / -28.5C
Winnipeg: 3.1C / -37.8C
Vancouver: 13.7C / -11.7C

Another winter storm coming for Tuesday/Wednesday. St. John's is expected to get 10 cm of snow and ice pellets.

It's supposed to be -3C on Tuesday and 8C on Wednesday so hopefully it'll all melt as it falls. Rest of the week ranges from highs of -4C to 3C.

After yesterday's mild temperatures our average daily high for the month is -0.2C. I hope we get up above 0C again. That'd be nice.

And maximum wind gusts from yesterday:

I guess it would be tough to be jealous of someone who has the ability to love both their body and the city they live in. I guess I can understand your relentless attention and attempted cyber bullying now. Well, if it makes you feel better about your own unfulfilled life to put others you don't know down over an internet forum, constantly, go right ahead mister! Everyone needs an outlet, no matter how pathetic, untimely, or public.

Currently 4 degrees as of 9 am, high of 15 forecast for today. Remarkably little wind associated with this system, not that I'm complaining.

Cold cold and more cold. That's the name of the game for Eastern Canada for the next few weeks. Snowstorms in Atlantic Canada, frigid cold for Quebec and Ontario. No sign of spring anywhere at least looking out to the end of February.

The west on the other hand is warming up AGAIN, after a few colder days this coming weekend. By the beginning of February I wouldn't be surprised to see more 15C weather in Calgary moving forward.

Only one day in the past 2 weeks that hasn't had highs above 0 in Edmonton.

I may be wrong but I can't think of a stretch like this in January ever before. B... bu... but frozen prairie wasteland that has 7 months of deep freeze.

No one here has put down anyone there due to the weather we're experiencing here, why would a comment need to be reserved? This happens here pretty much every January, this one and last one have just been exceptions to the norm. All we're doing is posting about it, as almost everyone who posts on this thread does more often when the weather is nice (especially when it's record breaking) in their area. And when I say "all we're doing is posting" I mean aside from the childish back and forth I'm having with Molson.

The 'you' in my comment was for everybody, not you. If I meant 'you', I would have quoted your post.

It's actually quite normal to have periods of above 0C weather in Alberta during the winter months as anyone from Alberta will tell you. This is especially true from Edmonton south to Calgary and down to the US border. While snow in September through June is somewhat of a normal occurrence, it's wrong to assume that Calgary gets 8+ months of winter. The truth is more complicated. Like Chad and many posters have highlighted, while Calgary did get a 30cm snowfall in the first week of September, they also had an extended 3-4 week period of 20C+ weather that followed. While most of Eastern Canada is frozen solid in January and February, folks in Calgary and Alberta SW are often in a roller coaster of very mild temps (3-10C, sometimes 15C as we are seeing the last couple days, or very cold temps of minus 30 or colder). This is normal weather for the area. So to stereotype and say Calgary is always cold, that's wrong. In fact, January and February are usually warmer in Calgary than in Montreal, and very similar to Toronto. This winter happens to be abnormally warm out west and abnormally cold out east, so it's skewing numbers from normal winters.

The reality of it is, Calgary is the warmest big city on the prairies by quite a long shot.

This stretch of awesome weather is going to make the next cold snap — big time lol. I fully expect another couple days in the -30 range this winter.

This is very true, as long as you are talking about winter only lol.

People think that Calgary is a prairie city, which is sort of is geographically (about 1/3 of the city is in the foothills and the rest is prairie) but climatically we are between the mountain zone and the prairie zone which basically creates our own unique zone. So while we don't have the mountains blocking the ingress of arctic air from the north like most of BC does, we are very much influenced by the mountains and chinook winds (which is basically air heating up as it descends from the mountains, I think I've heard 10 degrees C for every 1000m) so we are generally warmer in the winter than the rest of the prairies. Factor in the way the jet stream can stay north of us (usually around Edmonton) for extended periods and you have some very, very mild stretches in winter.
