You're calling this "analysis"? Wow, it just seems like you're slamming someone who happened to disagree with the negative "greek chorus" that you've developed around here.

Of course you're being sarcastic but thanks for posting the link. It saves me doing it. During her remarks she gave a shout out to the CMHR and it got a huge ovation from the 2000 in attendance. She gave a kickass speech, much more inspirational than what passes for commentary around here. If you don't think her appearance is good the museum, you don't much about marketing. It seemed that she was particularly impressed by the technology of the museum.

The conservative columnist in the Sun inadvertently makes a good case for scrapping admission fees all together. If all Canadian national museums are are subsidized by about 85% by the taxpayer, why not just offer free admission to all, like in the US?
Hey, quit confusing these guys with facts.

I would completely agree with you here. I would take it further to say that the museum project as a whole has been an exceptional example of amazing marketing and political maneuvering - so much so that it overcame major challenges in the area of substance, comprehensiveness and inclusivity. I noticed in the article that Hillary spent some time at the 2013 grad dress, one of the museum's prized artifacts.

If it worked on Hillary Clinton I suspect it will catch the attention of tens of millions, of which a few are bound to put the CHMR on their itinerary should they be travelling in the region. I stand by my earlier assertion that this particular item and what it stands for will attract American tourists.

Another marketing coupe, but a $351M building with $30M operating costs is hardly justifiable when the most interesting item is a mass-production dress.

What a tremendously ignorant comment _ unfortunately, I think you know that.

You live a society which values educational institutions and museums for the value they add to our lives and up to now has been willing to pay for it. Of course, a great deal of this one was paid for by private donors. You should accept it and move on.

Sorry buddy, "most people" see it for what it really is, an empty turd.
What an amazingly juvenile comment from a man your age. It's sad. If you like you can join me tomorrow morning at CMHR for a visit and a tour. I'll be the open-minded one waiting inside the front doors for you.

Less than half was donors, a lot know doubt, but leaving a majority of that bag with the tax payer. The on-going operating subsidies will soon shoot past that, of course.

Any idea why the Prime Minister didn't drop in?

I agree that it is not a turd. It is dark helmet. May the Schwartz be with you.

Lighten up, I was adding a hint of humour.

Visiting museums is one of my favourite thing to do but I will never cross the threshold of that one. The concept of it is utterly stupid and pointless.

Once again the negative locals come storming in. Tax funded and crying.

Guess what. It's a friggen museum not Rapid Transit. It doesn't need to MAKE money. It's here to educate. Something that a lot of you seem to miss. All you people see is money. And with your thinking we should shut down all parks that are funded by taxpayers. Close schools ( they don't make money either ). Heck lets just invest all out tax payer money in nothing but rapid transit , roads and some more ugly art for the Shed.

Bottom line. It's built. It's here. It's life. Move on or move to another city.

Really? Seems he hides his little face everywhere. He doesn't show up because he isn't popular unlike Hilary. No one outside Canada knows who Harper is. And the ones that do just laugh at him.

First, 147 million in donations is nothing to sneeze at. What proportion of private donor funding was used to build the other national Canadian museums? Second, stop calling operating funds subsidies. No Canadian national museum runs on a cost recovery basis. All Canadian national museums receive over 80% of their operating funds from the federal government. This is no different than other public institutions .

Harper was likely too cowardly to face the protests that would no doubt have occurred if he showed his mug at the opening of the CMHR. His appearance would no doubt have been seen as hypocritical by many because his record when it come to human rights is viewed by many as abysmal. Meanwhile, Harper's local lieutenant Shelly Glover was just this week fawning over Hillary Clinton and gushing about her wonderful time at the museum.
