I'm in a rush at the moment, but I have an update concerning the CCH, and it is bad news. I"ll share more in a few hours when I have more time. Cheers!

Oh that's just cruel; now I'll get nothing done at work with the anticipation.

Exactly. It looks like a 13 year old video gamer came up with the color scheme.

Through two close sources, one being my friend that works close to TRT. The original plan was to have the CCH somewhere between having 800-1,000 rooms, but from what I was told, it is highly likely the CCH in Salt Lake will be somewhere between 750-800 rooms. Also from what I was told, this will likely not be as a "massive hotel" as some originally thought, and as the media was saying it would be. He also said that the requirements for the CCH given to TRT Holdings/Omni "have taken more time and have been more difficult than originally planned", were his words.

Oh, well admittedly I've half expected the size to be cut down for some time. It's unfortunate that the requirements are slowing the process down though.

Maybe only having 750-800 rooms could be a good thing. This just means as demand grows ( it will ), other developers will step in and develop a 2nd and even 3rd large hotel to serve as a CCH. Maybe it's better to have two or three large hotels then just to have one super tall hotel.

Was in SLC over the weekend for the first time in many years. Pretty impressed with the skyline and infill, especially considering the relative size of the city itself. The public transportation was surprisingly effective, though I wasn't able to explore as much as I wanted. Really liked the Sugar House area. Utes gear was everywhere and so Im sure gamedays are fun, similar to the Broncos here in Denver.

I had heard smog was a problem there but boy I didn't expect it to be that significant. I'm sure that when its clear the whole valley is unbelievably gorgeous.

I have heard the same thing about the number of rooms decreasing to the number quoted by LumberJack. I have also heard that it has come down to just a few potential sites including one that would place the hotel on the same block as the convention center and rise above the existing structure. I did not hear exactly which block they were considering.

I wonder of they'll build the CCH similar to how the one was built in San Antonio. It was built right next to it and added additional convention space since it was just added onto the convention center, so to speak.

I think some of your are going to be surprised and disappointed to find out that the CCH won't be nearly as tall and won't be slender and flashy as you think. From what I'm hearing, similar to UTPlanner is that the CCH simply might just be an add on to the convention center as well as a little extra convention meeting space added. Look up San Antinio's Grand Hyatt to see what I mean. SLC doesn't get flashy, 🞵🞵🞵🞵 towers so I really don't see the CCH being that way either. Especially if it's connected or to rise above the convention center, as UTPlanner has said. Nothing about the convention center screams or says 🞵🞵🞵🞵 so I'm not expecting the hotel to either. Especially if they want to blend it in and make it look like a simple add on, which is how things usually go down in SLC.

Post on Three and Three UnCommons at 300 South and 300 West. The space looks great, I like what they had done to it.

I do know the main location that has been looked at for the CCH (if it is built on the current convention center property).

I cannot give any real details about this unless the site is chosen and even then, you would see it in the news first probably anyway. The only thing I am not sure of how it would work at the location is the parking.

I guess 1 thing though is that it would be closer to a Trax stop than the RWP location.

The location would be a minor demolition of part of the Convention Center and would probably mean the loss of a few meeting rooms during the demolition and subsequent construction of the CCH. For the needed space of approximately 80,000 Sq. Ft. of meeting space (based on 800 rooms), this would be on top of any lost meeting space from demolition and construction. This would also put the first 4 floors as meeting space (if not a 5th floor) depending on the final design. This also means that the rooms wouldn't begin until the 5th/6th floor, meaning a hotel around 30 stories (depending on layout of course).

As always, the size and shape is strictly speculation until something concrete is provided.

I haven't heard to much about a room reduction though. Although, I think it will be closer to or at 800. I know that Outdoor Retailer wants a single hotel with at least 800 rooms close to the Convention Center. Because of this, I would suspect that there would be someone doing what they can to ensure that it is closer to 800 rooms.

With other hotels coming online or being built around the area, a single 1000 room hotel isn't as much of a need but one that is closer to 800 is needed badly. I think once construction starts and the hotel starts accepting room blocks for future conventions, it may encourage other, larger hotels (500-700 rooms) to be built.

We are gaining new and larger conventions and the CCH will push us up a level that I think will drive hotel construction even further and higher. And of course, this also means that another expansion may come sooner rather than later.

Base on all these clues in reading on here it sounds like the CCH could very well end up on South Temple right where the newer meeting rooms were built during the last add on.

This is my opinion and own speculation from what I've read here and what my two sources have said, but I think it will be on the corner of South Temple and 300 West and right across the street from Energy Solutions Arena. It would require a small portion of the convention center torn down, (and I think that is where some underground parking entrance is too), and i think a small Fidelity Bank building. In that location I think it would also be attractive for away NBA teams, and also other events that could be held at the arena. It would be extremely close to a Trax station as well. Again it would obviously help the convention center but also the arena.

SLC Projects. I don't see how there would enough room for a hotel on the sight you mention and think it's on. Even if they did some demolition. It would also likely require part of Abravanel Hall to be torn down, and that's not going to happen, yet even possible.

Not altogether terrible news. I've had worse news. Not about the CCH, but still. There are worse things to hear. Honestly I kind of like having the expansion of the Salt Palace being on the same block; as a sucker who's carried thousands of pounds of LEGO in and out of that building at three different comic con events (fourth coming up in two weeks), it really is imperative that it's all connected somewhere. For the attendees, sure, but for the exhibitors coming to your convention as well.

If it's built on South Temple somewhere, I'm hoping another hotelier (I just wanted to use that word for the first time in my life) comes in and snatches up Royalwood Plaza. That site is rapidly becoming Carls Jr 2 for me. A South Temple site would also encourage development to the west, and possibly even the acres of parking lots on the north side of South Temple.

It'd be nice if there were also some smaller boutique hotels on some of the other sites we've been talking about; former DV8, the grassy knoll whose name is escaping me, etc. With an expanded Salt Palace and bigger conventions coming in, hopefully that will be the case.
