No, the Western Trust Blg (WT) houses Bryan's on the main retail level. Yoga Mala and Bodhi Tree were in the Havik Blg. Bodhi Tree is already out of there according to their website which confirms that building was sold and the new owners have different plans that do not include Yoga.

The Havik Building has an interesting history and of course is designated as a heritage building.

This 1911/12 building is located on the
approximate site of Regina's first town hall, which
stood here from 1886 to 1906. The Imperial Bank of
Canada later merged with the Canadian Bank of
Commerce to form the Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce. The Toronto firm of Darling & Pearson
designed it. The walls are faced with Tyndall stone
and feature a denticulate cornice. The corner
windows on the main floor are topped with
pediment hoods, while the other windows and the
Scarth Street entrance have flat hoods supported
by brackets. The Scarth Street entrance is further
articulated with flanking, recessed pilasters. This
property has been on the Regina Heritage Holding
Bylaw List since 1989. It was the recipient of a
1984 Municipal Heritage Award in the Exterior Restoration category.

I recall when it was restored in the early 80's when it was still a CIBC branch. It then became a McDonald's and then was a Greek fast food place for a while. It sat vacant for a few years until Havik moved in.

Very cool! That area is still going through the gentrification process and it's going to be a risky venture at this point but all the best to them. Advertisements in and around the hospital would create some foot traffic from staff and visitors plus the new condo across the street would provide a few customers as well. It would be welcome tennant for that ugly old building and hopefully spur another business to move into that white building next door.

Since we are all posting wild rumours, how about this one.

The YMCA is rumoured to be taking over the Future Shop in the East end. Where will Future Shop go...or would they be closing? This would make four new gyms in a two block strip.

Anyone else hear this rumour?

It never should have been built, nor the home depot. The land was supposed to be used for future expansion of the Vic/Ring interchange...which of course is BADLY needed now but is impossible thanks to the short-sightedness of the city councillors.

That's the past. It would make little sense now that a new east bypass is being built.

I would a agree right at this moment we dont need to expand but has our population increase we are going to see more traffic. Yes the bypass will solve some of the problems we have but we all got to remember the bypass is for bypassing we still need to invest in infrastructure within city limits look what happens at rush hour between 4:00 to about 6 ish on the ring road especially at the MacDonald over pass Winnipeg overpass and then right at ring road ,9th ave N and pasqua bottleneck! as we grow these areas are not going to get any easier if we don't at least start planning to upgrade these section. The bypass does not solve these issues if your going to the northwest unless you want to go from northwest to emerald park.

I don't think you would use the bypass to get to Emerald Park from the north end unless you want to drive 40 km around the west and south parts of the City. The bypass might take some north end traffic headed to and from highway 11 or #1 west.

Well you could for a example if I have a 8 am install in emerald park right now I take pinkie all the way to the number 1 then hit up Victoria Ave instead of going down 9th avenue north then ring road to avoid all the congestion that you hit at 2 spots the lights at Pasqua and ring road and then at the MacDonald st overpass traffic can back up from there all the way back to Albert st. So it faster to take the other way. Also use that way in evening get home from the east end back to edgewater.

Agreed, I drive over Ring road at North Albert a little before 8am and sometimes it is actually stopped eastbound, and the ramp has trucks coming off 11 stuck on it.

I would rather take a longer drive then one that is shorter in distance but not likely in time. As the new bypass is likely to be 110km/h.

I have a feeling after the new bypass is opened, a lot of truckers coming south on highway 11 wanting to go east on #1 will take the bypass around, longer yes, but will have no lights, or railroad crossings and be better for their fuel economy. THAT in itself will make the Ring road NE section, a lot better to drive on. Same would go for trucks heading west on the #1 wanting to go North on Highway 11. Considering the ramps are likely to be at minimum 70km/h high speed ramps.

Husky House and Reed's were there alright; however, to the west of where Home Depot is now.

OK but that is not nearly as far out as the Bypass will be. It will be about 30km further around the west than going east on the ring road. Unless you are in a semi, it seems not worth it, but you actually drive that route, so you would know better how bad it is.

Since its the time of year for the airing of grievances, feats of strength and the spreading of unfounded rumours, the latest rumour I heard is that since a new theatre is going in Harbour Landing, southland cinemas is closing and H&M is looking at the soon to be ex southland cinemas property. I didn't make this up - has anyone else heard anything about this?

I think this rumour made the rounds here a while back, and the resolution was that the new theatre is off. H&M was said to have visited Southland at the time. Cornwall could be plan B.

The theatre-shaped building is still on the Grasslands site plan next to London Drugs, but that may be old. I thought there was another pub going in that area.
