^Part of the reason for a private sale might be the city trying to promote certain development within areas within certain timelines. I applaud that concept because I don't believe the city has done enough to promote development of certain areas within the core. There are many opportunities, but the city, at least in the near past, has done little to move with any of the recommendations brought forth by studies and plans.

While I am no fan of the design at present, I am pretty excited about the use concept and potential of this kind of development.

Are there any details about the proposed grocery store? Would this be an independent or are they seeking a major brand to do more of a boutique sized store downtown?
I think it would be difficult to do something independent now with all the supply chain links of the major grocers. I'm thinking it could end up being a YIG or something like that, sort of a franchise-type situation.

Low-income housing, not a hotel.

A new brewery is looking to opening in Regina.

Malty National Brewing posted to their Facebook page that they've applied to have a property in the Heritage neighbourhood rezoned (1128-15th Avenue).

It's been (sort of) mentioned here before, but that's a great location for it. Nice to see.

If this is the new location for Leopold's II (Quance), it will not have much character:

I know this will stir up the site , there are rumours of a New close to 300 million hockey arena to replace brant place In a few years time , now don't go wild, no sources but good contacts , in Regina anything is possible , most likely built by the private sector , it could be true who knows , again just a rumour

Anyone else hear this? The building that is home to Havik, Yoga Mala, and Bodhi Tree has been sold (this much is true.. Bodhi Tree is closing their downtown location because the new owners have other plans for the building.) Havik will be moving to a new location. Not sure what will happen to Yoga Mala. Anyway, the rumour is that the mall bought the building which will be home to an H&M. No idea if there's truth to that, though it would make sense that they wouldn't have space for other tenants as the only way H&M would make that space work is to be on all levels. I cant think of another tenant that would make it logical to empty out the building. Thoughts?

The typical H&M is 20-25,000 square feet. That building is maybe 10k on 2 levels. It may have a basement but the ceiling is probably too low. Now if the combined it with the Smitty's building, that would be awesome. That building has Chatters and Timmies on the second floor believe.

Yoga Mala has the same owners as Havik. I believe they also own the building.

I have heard this rumour. I believe it's a long shot as it must have public money. There will be no significant public money for this unless and until the New Mosaic stadium is completed and deemed a financial success and then only after the public forgets about the $284 million of public financing.

You might be right about the building being too small. For some reason I was thinking it was more than two floors (maybe I was thinking of the one next door.) If the mall actually bought the building, though, I could see them combining it with Smitty's and possibly Chatters/Tim's (how much square footage would that actually add?) This would also be the only way the store would have a mall entrance (although Lululemon doesn't, and it works fine.)

Yoga Mala is owned by Emma Korkola and Havik is owned by Rob and Shannon Rutledge. It's possible that they bought the building when they moved there (I have also heard that they own it.) Maybe they got an offer they couldn't refuse.

Rumor Ville

There's been lots of exciting rumours lately, between IKEA, H & M and new arena one could go wild with all this stuff. Too bad they are all rumours and not fact, but hey be interesting to see if any of these ever come true..

Mata Gallery

For you arty types, there is a new art gallery that has opened in the main floor of centre plaza, next to the new furniture store. Here are a few pics, looks like a nice spot, it was formerly known as Mysteria Gallery on 13th:

These are two separate buildings -1775 Scarth Street - Havik and 2020 11th Avenue - WT Condominiums - home of Bodhi Tree/Yoga Mala
