Sheesh! These are the people who will be driving them so they should have been told about it before now!
The CTS (Compact Transit System) ie. "people mover" will not be driven by the White Hatters. The system will have dedicated drivers.

Uh oh, so will the White Hatters be out of a job (or at least one less task)?

No, it will just be a completely new job that requires new employees?

I'm almost 100% sure the white hatters are volunteers and are not paid, so there will always be a use for them at the airport.

Heck I'm probably a future white hatter! Still got quite a few years to go though.

Anyone know if the system has a system of magnetic guides or anything so they can just motor on the straightaways?

Is a CTS really justified? I mean walking from one end to the other at Vancouver(international to domestic) is around 15 minutes, which should be pretty much similar to walking from Concourse A (WJ) to the new terminal, and Vancouver have way way way more domestic to US/International connections than Calgary.

When you think about the cost of operating/maintaining such a system (can't be cheap), and the number of people that benefits from it, and the fact that Vancouver doesn't have such a system, I don't know.

^ Westjet probably asked for it during the scope phase as conditional to their support of the project as a whole.

That makes a lot of sense for them, but I think comes with major responsibility in developing out their international network via Calgary.

Looking forward to trying Delta out next Friday. Heading to Seattle. When I was looking at their schedule they had Alaska airlines flights in the list to select; so I would assume that Delta code shares with Alaska.

The fare was pretty good - I bumped up to first class because I've had a bunch of American $ saved up for a bit of a shopping spree at the outlet malls; with the baggage fees the difference between economy and first class wasn't that much. I just wanted the extra bags...I'm just glad that I had exchanged my $ when the loonie was higher!

During the scope phase WS made a big push to swap domestic operations with AC. They lost out as there is no room on their concourse for maple leaf lounge. Plus AC had a lease and would take YYCAA to the cleaners to get out of the lease (think sears taking Cadillac fairview to cleaners for the rejection of Chinook lease).

As a consolation CAA gave Was the ability to run swing gates into international terminal. Finally the CTS solution arose to replace or reduce the swing gate requirement.

Also post to come into the future, but if you avgeeks want to take a gander over at the AC quarterly announcement from today. Big implications on their fleet plan for 2016 with 15 new widebody aircraft set to join the fleet plus 5 new airbus confirmed.

Additionally, rouge out of YUL and YYZ going much better than expected. I will look into further but it's very possible that rouge flying out west will be negatively impacted due to the higher profit potential out east. I need to do some more analysis later tonight, but I will downgrade my outlook for additional rouge flying out of YYC.

Was looking over those fleet charts in the reports, lets enjoy the Airbus' while we can before the onslaught of 737's.

Future YYC is going to be 737 + Q400 dominated. Any ideas what equip AC is planning on putting on YYC-YVR once the E90's and A319/20's are gone? I'm guessing all 737's?

Interesting that the A333 is sticking around, thought they were gonna get rid of them along with the 767s.

Although they're only going to refit them with Premium Economy and not update the rest of the interior, unlike the rest of the widebody fleet.

I find myself wondering... is the 788 too much airplane for some routes once all the 763's bail from mainline? Or will a few frames stick around?

I don't think AC is planning to keep the 767 in mainline fleet after 787 deliveries are complete.
There was a report that showed the medium and long term fleet plan for AC and ACR, but I can't find it right now.
And AC seems to be moving towards larger aircraft - they reduced the no. of 788 to 15, now they are adding more seats in 777s and they bought 7 more 77Ws including today's 2, instead of smaller 787s.
This means in a few years the smallest capacity widebody in the AC fleet will be the 788 (251 seats). Even Rouge 767s will have more seats.
