All subjective Boris remember?

I love Calgary's skyline for it's size.

Take a helicopter over that now, and You'll see why IMO Calgary is a solid fourth..Well behind Montreal.

Oh? I thought were all not getting butthurt about people having different opinions now.

Montreal gets 4th place. It doesn't get to stand on the podium. Sorry.

Um, no. Too many ugly buildings surrounded by suburban family homes, and the only good building sticks out like a sore thumb, i.e. not in a good way. Calgary has quantity, but that's it. It's somewhere in the top ten. Maybe four, maybe five.

The top three are definitely Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. This is mostly subjective, but it doesn't mean you can't discuss it rationally.

There'd be a lot less fighting on here if people didn't keep trying to present their opinions as facts.

Best overall skyline taking natural surroundings into account- the Oscar goes to Vancouver..

Most impressive in your face skyline, the Oscar goes to Toronto edging out Vancouver..Close one to call folks ..The votes were really tight says Billy Crystal before he goes into his song and dance routine.

Most impressive and dynamic skyline for it's size - the Oscar goes to Calgary by a landslide.

Most eclectic and interesting varying skyline - the Oscar goes handily to Montreal ..
Honourable mentions goes three ways to Quebec city and Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Most dense skyline - The Oscar goes to ????????

Yeah it does look better when large office towers are supported by smaller buildings that taper down slowly as you move outwards. Otherwise it looks unnatural...

The Montreal pictures really deserve their own thread. They should have one in the main city photos section since they'll get buried in this one and it's important for people to be able to refer back to them and search easily by the thread title.

As far as the huge discussion they provoked, I think people need to differentiate between having an impressive skyline and having an impressive cityscape. You don't judge a city's skyline by looking at aerial photos, you judge it by looking at skyline photos (or even better, viewing it in person of course). I have no doubt that Montreal has a much more impressive cityscape, which it should considering it's age and how it has so much more people and stuff crammed into a smaller area. But I still find Calgary has the more impressive skyline.

Then again, this is often the case isn't it? I find the same thing between say, Paris and Chicago. Comparing aerials Paris has a more impressive cityscape (there are few I'd consider any more impressive), but Chicago has a more impressive skyline.

Admittedly it's been a few years since I've been to Calgary, but it was quite jarring to see the almost clean-break transition from high density muscly CBD towers to the well... I wouldn't even call it low density sprawl... more like barren-ness. I'm sure that is all changed/changing in time.

It's almost like in Vancouver, you walk down the lush downtown streets and you turn a wrong corner and all of a sudden you're in a different place, the down-trodden DTES slum. In Calgary, you walk down the bustling downtown streets, and you turn a corner an all of a sudden you're in a wistful street scape of lonely single building shops and surface parking lots.

Even weirder in Vancouver is when you enter Stanley Park. You go from mid-rises all around to trees very abruptly
