Another two to try is Central Mountain Air and Enerjet.

Definitely keep us posted, I'm always curious to see how these play out.

Have you guys seen this?? It's sick!! (Pardon my slang but this has got to be the coolest airport I have ever seen). Planning & Construction took over 6 years and cost over €4,000,000!

I need to book a trip to Hamburg ASAP.

Not sure if this is mentioned here before, but as per the new item below WestJet is getting 767's from Qantas.

These will be retired ahead of schedule over the coming months and are heading to the desert, following one already retired plane in Alice Springs and others in Victorville in the US.

But ex-Qantas aircraft are well regarded and are unlikely to stay there long. It is understood four have already been sold to a leasing company and are expected to don WestJet livery.

At first I thought you were talking about the actual Hamburg Airport, which is completely unremarkable and I was confused, but yes Miniature Wonderland is amazing, and Hamburg itself is one of the most under-rated cities in Europe.

You just made me look up CDG...that's 5 seconds of my life I'll never get back!

September PAX stats

http://www.yyc.com/en-us/media/factsfigures/passengerstatistics.aspx

Nice numbers once again! August also seems to have been revised from 5.8% to 6.3%.

Overall: +6.1%
Domestic: +6.5%
Transborder: +4.0%
International: +6.8%

For the rolling 12 months we are nearly at 15.1 million passengers.

By the end of the year it looks like transborder + international will combine for 4.5 million passengers, an increase of about 500K since 2012.

Sounds like you're going to the same tourney my son's team is going to (and sadly I probably wont be ). We're looking into a charter as well - North Cariboo and I have heard rumblings we might split it with a few other local teams who are going. Once I know more I will let you know if there might be room on that charter.

PHX (or Phoenix if you prefer) is a great place for a hockey tournament.

I'm excited for CX landing in YYC. If we get YYC->HKG, it would kill PAL's route of YYC->YVR->MNL.

Philippine Airlines is junk anyways. ALL HAIL CATHAY PACIFIC!

Thanks for all the advice on this everyone! I have a couple of quotes now. Regional 1 came back at $62K for a 50 seat Canadair RJ return. A Broker was estimating $67K for probably the same style jet. The commercial flights are at $700 pp economy that weekend for non-stop flights (Its Family Day/ Presidents Day weekend).

Lubicon- Our team (Trails West) may be interested in banding together with other Calgary teams if it could bring down the pp cost of a charter to close to commercial pricing. I think the charter would be an awesome experience for the boys.

Could an RJ handle all the cargo for a hockey team? And like wise, baggage fees for the scheduled flights?

If you are going over a weekend I'd get a quote from Enerjet also. From what I've heard they are a reasonable option for weekend charters. The downside is they only fly 737's so this may work better for 2 teams.

Except PAL doesn't fly YYC-YVR-MNL.

That's true. AC does the YYC->YVR most of the time but IMO, I'd rather do YYC->HKG->MNL.

I flew on CX as a kid with a 3 day stopover in HK with my dad. Was one of the best memories of my life. Favourite part was checking in for my flight at the Airport Express Station early on the last day, dropping off luggage and getting our boarding passes then spending the last few hours enjoying the city before taking the train to the airport to board the flight.

Was amazed that this system existed and frankly do not understand why we can't implement similar systems in N.A. (ie. remote check-in downtown Calgary with fixed rail to YYC, or in Vancouver at Waterfront Station in conjunction with the Canada Line to YVR), but that is a discussion for a different day.

Suffice to say CX and HK are both awesome!

Calgary isn't that big yet but with the Airport LRT coming soon(?), it'll be smooth sailing going forward.

I flew to Calgary on one of BA's 767's yesterday and overheard one of the flight attendants informing a passenger that the 787's are currently receiving their First Year Maintenance.

Kind of, they are cycling frames down to Victorville for upgrades and such, that is why the YYC service is a 767 for 3 weeks.

Nice to hear that from you, as a Canadian-born HongKongese. I agree, we do need an express rail line but that is just a pipe dream in Calgary. But the Airport Express in HK is WAY TOO expensive. I only took it once out of the 6 times I visited HK because it costs too much. But then again, I am a "semi-local" so I would know what airport bus to take/where to get off.
