I was told today by my AA friend in DFW that our afternoon DFW flight next summer is one of several routes that could flex between 738 and 319 equipment as necessary. Nothing set in stone, obviously... and it's showing 100% 738 at the moment.

Stop making us Google airport codes everytime you guys post. Say what YYF are or whatever other obscure locations you're referencing. I'm not nitpicking about CDG or LHR or whatever but your constant insistence on making this thread only for hardcore aviation geeks when it is for and is relevant for all calgarians is incredibly annoying.

Well I think we should stop using the IATA codes and please start using ICAO. Some of the IATAs I have to look up!
LHR = EGLL
YYC = CYYC

Does anyone have any advice about who to use for a charter to PHX for approx 50 PAX? Thinking a Canadair RJ or similar.

Looking to take a team down for a tournament in February.

Try North Cariboo Air or Regional 1, maybe Sunwest also.

This morning (Sunday), I was startled to see a low-flying jet pass over the downtown's west end several times, headed south. Flightradar said it was a "Nav Canada" flight from, and destined for, YYC. Aircraft was a Canadair somthing-or-other ...looked like a small DC-9 (but much quieter!). Anyone know what this was about? It was very low --probably hardly higher than the taller towers in the downtown's east end -- and seemed to be on the same flight path the three times I saw it fly overhead.

Yes that is Nav Canada's CRJ, it is used to flight check the navigational aids and landing systems such as the ILS on runways. They get to to fly around low and fast and shoot multiple approaches to make sure the equipment is calibrated properly.

Really cool to watch.

Thanks! It was cool -- although it's funny how, in a post-9/11 world, low-flying jets can be vaguely unsettling.

I would look at WS group booking. http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/travel/special-arrangements/groups/group-flights.shtml

WS routinely handles amatier and professional sports charters, business group travel, etc.

Booking with WS gets the back portion of the cabin for free seat selection. The airline takes care of all the other formalities.

A 50 sweater fully loaded might not make PHX n/s, therefore you would have to look at a bigger airplane. Going with the WS route, one would not have to worry about size of airplane or having risk of empty seats.

Another charter airline to look at would be westwind Aviation.

You might want to also reach out to the other two airlines that operate on that route, Air Canada and US Airways.

Between WestJet, Air Canada or US Airways I don't have a feeling for which is more accommodating to large groups or has better packages.

As a share holder I wonder how Chorus Aviation would come out in the quote department. Big issue for charters I would guess is paying for a dead head both ways.
