that's because they actually mean it.
christianity and islam were the same way. they really want the world to be this way, and they really do think it would be better for us all.
i can't really blame them for being like this; all mass movements of this type are this way.
i am just a temperamental skeptic and am never quite "on-board", probably because, like you, i have that cyclical sort of outlook.
