Not sure if it will happen that fast. Would be nice, but I'm sure we will have to wait at least another month or so knowing just how slow and long these things take. Unless, you know something I don't.

So is this a for sure winner?

Love the overall look and nightlife. Love the office tower. A bit disappointed that the Convention Center Hotel is only 25. ( not bad, but isn't going to be a new tallest that a lot of us hoped for. )
Still I'm 90% pleased with this and I'm always a fan of getting more then one tower out of a development.

Do they pick the winner today? I'm not sure how that works but I think the proposals go on to be evaluated later??

It is nice looking and different from what we have now but, I was expecting and still want something a little taller than 27 levels. At least a 35 story tower with an interesting crown. I'm sure they (the Forum) are not the only developers bidding on this project. Or has the decision already been made?

I doubt that this is the only proposal that was submitted. I am sure there are several that will be reviewed, and even if this one is selected I am sure this won't be the final rendering of the project...just the general layout and design they are going for.

Extraordinary office space will be designed with 10’ to 12’ floor-to-ceiling heights for better daylighting, much higher than average, with floor to ceiling glass windows, taking advantage of spectacular panoramic views of the City, the Foothills, the Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake Valley. An environmentally-friendly mechanical system that conserves natural resources will reduce operating costs while increasing tenant comfort. Its unique architectural design provides tenants with open floor plates and variable core to window depths that maximize open or private office layout flexibility. The building's 36 foot high lobby is closely merged into the Plaza space, offering a dramatic and inviting entryway. The top floor will have a ceiling height of 12’ to 15’. Floor-to-ceiling window heights will allow natural light to penetrate throughout the floor.

27 Floors above two levels of entertainment space.

At 10' per floor. 10X25 = 250 FT
Plus 36 FT lobby = 286 FT
Plus 12 FT top floor = 298 FT
Plus two floors of entertainment space would put this at over 300FT

At 12's per floor. 12X25 = 300 FT
Plus 36 FT lobby = 336 FT
Plus 15 FT top floor = 351 FT
Plus two floors of entertainment space would put this upper 300's nearing 400 FT. Plus the Crown could be what?......another 20 FT? This tower is very close of being a tallest.

“Today’s deadline was for interested parties to submit proposals in response to the county’s request for a private developer to build a private convention hotel with public meeting space near the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Salt Lake County has received one proposal from Omni Hotels & Resorts to privately develop, finance and operate a convention hotel adjacent to the Salt Palace Convention Center."

Does this mean that Omni is the only submission? If so, it would seem we vastly overestimated interest in the project. The fact that the release touts Omni as much as it does also seems to have made it likely to be the final operator.

I like this proposal a lot. The only thing I would change is to make the hotel footprint smaller and taller so that the apartment building is a little bit further from the existing apartments.

Well now. This project would certainly be a game changer for the Salt Lake City skyline, if in fact the project is actually built. I kinda like it. Has a bit of City Center Vegas feel to it.

So, is the Omni the one proposing The Forum?

If we don't get a new tallest out of the new CCH, I think this proposal is the next best thing.

The Omni bid would probably be the fastest to break ground. This is because they would be an all in 1, developer, financier and operator. Other bidders would need to get either the Financier or Operator if not both.

I would find it shocking if out of 40+ large and excited developers that there was only 1 bid. I think it was called out in the report for the information above. With reports the last few years of multiple developers wanting to build the CCH, I think the review process will take a month or so.

I personally am not expecting a public announcement on the developer selection until around Christmas, if even that early.

Regarding "The Forum", if they don't get the bid for the CCH, I would love them to build the rest of the plan. A 27 Story building would be close to 450' or higher and would do wonders on the block.

If Omni does get the bid, I think the site listed on "The Forum" would be ideal but a taller, thinner design built towards the SE corner. I would also love to see them build it with the same footprint size and add support for a future tower on the NW corner area. Event at 2/3 the size.

The next few months will be interesting to watch.

They might not have as much as an incentive though because there is no 75 million dollar tax break
