I can't figure out why the proposed Plains Health Center has stalled while Saskatoon is getting a fourth hospital and Regina's two hospitals have been overwhelmed for years now. The governments approach seems to be blame the RQHR and not move forward on something they promised in the last election. Politics is obviously at play here, it will be interesting to see if they are saving up for a re-announcement in the next election.

For those that haven't seen them yet, here are the new lights at 14th & Albert:





Both sides are equipped with traffic sensors to reduce unnecessary stops. I like the fact that this will give people going EB on 14th through the Cathedral area a legitimate chance to cross Albert and continue down 14th. If you tried that before you were just asking to be T-boned.

Ya, but you need to remember that the NDP built the original Plains Health Centre in 1974 - and that's fine. Conversely, during 1999, the facility underwent an asbestos cleanup, and after that, was converted to SIAST. (Under the NDP - and their infinite wisdom.) The old Plains Health Centre even had a helicopter pad atop on the roof! The NDP ought to keep their mouths shut about this.

Besides that, the Children's Hospital is more appealing for the upcoming election anyway for the Wall gov't. The Plains II will eventually be built.

That is not correct. The Plains was completed under Blakeney's NDP who came in to power in 1971. The Plains was conceived in the 60's by Ross Thatcher's Liberals who were the only real right of centre party in SK until the 80s. It was originally called the Base Hospital:

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on 9 July 1970, after nearly three years of intensive planning by the SSHC Board and its architects. The corner stone was laid on 8 November 1973 and the Centre was opened in 1974.

Construction of the Base Hospital and the Centre of the Arts, both on Wascana Parkway, were both stopped for a time because the Province ran out of money. The steel structures sat for a time and were derided as the "monkeybars".

Now they just need to get 15th and Broad done and it will be a lot safer there too. A lot of pedestrians crossing there. And now more people with Centre Square there.

But Thatcher wasn't the first right-of-centre administration for SK, Anderson was. (Post 1905/as a Conservative.) Technically speaking, Liberals are centrist. (Even though actual individuals may not be.)

Yes, but of course you are in fact right of centre if there are only 2 parties and the other is the NDP. Kind of like the Liberals in B.C. and Quebec (before the ADQ).

Technically you can have all parties left or right of centre as the centre is a moderate political position, not merely the position between 2 parties. Typically you will have at least one choice on each side, however.

Cool! That is awesome. I'll definitely check out the market. I already have a route planned out. I'm staying at Victoria and Broad, so downtown first (+ the market), down to the museum, through Wascana Park to the Capitol, and then back up through Wascana.

I also already found an awesome place to snap a unique skyline angle

Call it the ledge... Even though it can be called a capitol building (although that's technically a generic reference to a statehouse rather than Canadian government buildings), people will think you're some crazy American that has no knowledge of the place you're visiting or something.

The market starts at 9 or so and goes until 12 or 1, so keep that in mind for your route planning.

It's a bit of a shame that the dome of the ledge is covered at the moment though... They installed a statue for Walter Scott (First Premier of Sask and man behind the selection/choice of the legislature) in front of the gardens, and there is a bit of a peep-hole in the statue that can be lined up with the legislature a bit.

Also, since you're at Broad and Victoria... The Italian Star deli is right near there, and some of their sandwiches come highly recommended if you're looking for a quick meal before heading to the Callie sometime (it's usually a bit of a pit stop for players from opposing CFL teams when they visit).
