It is a bit weird to hear someone talk about Montreal as a "miniature" when compared to Calgary for just about anything city-related.

Let's not get into that Montreal vs Calgary discussion again. I too disagree with Nouvellecosse's comment but seriously, Montreal looks nothing like Calgary and Cal looks nothing like Montreal. Period

Skylines are the curves of a women's body. Superficial yet highly desirable. They have relatively little to do with urbanity, vibrancy and just about anything else used to gauge a city. Relax.

I don't really get a Calgary vibe from the photo but, it does look smaller. Of course, it's only a section of Montreal's skyline.

To erect a tall building is to proclaim one’s faith in the future so the skyline is a seismograph of optimism. lol

I get that sense from the photo too, the only similarity is, like this portion/angle of Montreal, how the entire breadth of Calgary skyline fits so easily into a standard photo shot. I think that's what makes it aesthetically pleasing.

On the left hand side, you can see a bit of what they plan on putting there.

Looks promising!

Actually for Montreal I'd love to see a great soccer stadium there. I do love that picture of Montreal. It really hits everything I love about the skyline. Montreal is an oddment of architectural styles and I love it. Even the brutalist building to the right of 1000 de La Gauchetière makes sense to me in Montreal.

Yeah, ok, sorry for that. I guess I'm just very fade up of "city vs city" debate.

What can I tell ya? From that angle it gives off that vibe to me. It looks very office centric and lacks the domes, spires and other historic elements in the foreground of shots looking across vieux Montreal, and lacks the sea of highrise and midrise residential buildings seen in views from the mountain. In fact it doesn't show any lowrise cityscape at all which is typical of Calgary shots but not shots of Montreal. It looks like a big office core like Calgary, but one smaller than Calgary which makes sense as Calgary has larger office buildings and more large office buildings.

But I do admit it was a bit of a flame bait as I obviously I've been around here long enough to know it would elicit a reaction and for that I am deeply ashamed. Well not really but I promise not to do it again for awhile.

The soccer stadium is already built, just beside the Big O.

Personally, I find these skyline vs skyline discussions quite interesting (like the one a few days ago), as long as there is mutual respect throughout. Unfortunately, some users always end up taking things too seriously and start bashing other cities.

As for the picture, I kinda get what you mean, but Calgary's Downtown is much more condensed... Montreal probably has the biggest Downtown in the country in terms of land area, hence the difficulty to capture everything in one picture.
