Urban climate thank you for those photos it just shows phase one of a better Regina and it's happening close to the core , let's hope they get it right in the first place , the opportunity for something amazing on those vacant lands is endless , from the stadium site to the old mosaic site , moving along to the the Canadian. Pacific lands now that's where a new Regina begins

We talked about that on here before and I think we determined it wasn't happening. The lease on the Southland theatre doesn't run out until 2018 which made it prohibitive to move it for the time being. They were saying it would take the spot next to London Drugs though.

The land next to Golf Town is earmarked for an "Urban Village" according to the Dundee's plans. It's supposed to have lots of tree-lined boulevards and coffee shops and such. Kind of like Scarth Street downtown.

I think we thought the theatre was going to be the funny-shaped building west of London Drugs on the plan, not the urban village area.

Personally I doubt the urban village idea is going to be realized fully. I mean really, why would you even create it in an area where you need to drive to anyway? It's such a small thing in a really dumb location. The original plans for Harbour Landing years ago were much better, which a much larger town square concept (with a large central square area with surrounding shops, school, park, etc. But parks and squares don't make developers money, so it was scrapped in favour of the suburbia we received. I would expect the same compromises on this already-compromised urban village idea.

That was my assumption, given the oddly detailed shape of the building on the site plan (most bldgs are just place-holder shapes like rectangles). Why go into that much detail unless something was planned. Not to mention the shape of the building looks a lot like a Cineplex SilverCity theatre.

Now, this isn't to say: a) I was just wrong, or b) plans have changed (or were never very firm in the first palce).

A mosque is going to be built in East Regina. Ground breaking next week at 3810 Eastgate Dr which is near the Best Western.

Coopertown has the same design, will be interesting if they keep it.

I doubt it. I also don't understand why Gordon road isn't just straight all the way out to the west. It curves and then thins down to a single lane. So what about when more development happens west of the present area? They've just eliminated a major collector road due to dumb design. I don't understand how the city and developers make these decisions sometimes.

I agree. (Unless the west end of Gordon has a termination point before Campbell St. in the future.) Jim Cairns Blvd looks like it'll be wide to Campbell though.
