Now, if Air was that tall, it would be close to 700' based on the elevation change and the position relative to the Wells Fargo building. I wouldn't object to that, I just don't think it is likely.

Birmingham: 4 over 350

Raleigh: 3 over 350 (1 over 500, only 3 total over 275)
New Orleans: 16 over 350
Richmond: 3 over 350
Louisville: 7 over 350 (2 over 500)
OKC: 6 over 350 (2 over 500 including 844)
Rochester: 4 over 350
Grand Rapids: 1 over 350
Tucson: 0 over 350
Those are the 6 cities just above SLC and the 5 cities just below SLC in MSA population
It's different for CSA:
Kansas City: 13 over 350
Sacramento: 8 over 350
Charlotte: 15 over 350
Pittsburgh: 18 over 350
St. Louis: 9 over 350
Orlando: 7 over 350
Columbus: 13 over 350
Indianapolis: 9 over 350
Las Vegas: >40 over 350
Cincinnati: 13 over 350
Milwaukee: 8 over 350
Raleigh: 3 over 350
So, we are on par or better for cities with similar MSA, but way off for cities with similar CSA

If things keep going like they have been, SLC will be gaining a few more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Salt_Lake_City
The above links counts 111 Main on it but that gives us 6 at 350' or taller. CCH and the Air Center will be #7 and #8.
This is without Boyer possibly adding additional Height to 151 State (I keep hoping here, just a few more floors needed).
I also think the CCH will be the first building in SLC to be built in excess of 500' and probably closer to 600'.
Also, if the market keeps going like it is for the area, I think Wasatch Properties will dust off their plans for their twin residential towers for 4th South and State, that Deloy Hansen was quoted as saying would be visibly the tallest in SLC (puts them over 500' each) at the time.
With 8 over 350' that will put us with behind New Orleans but ahead of all others based on MSA. It also puts us even with Sacramento and Milwaukee and ahead of Orlando and just behind St Louis based on CSA.
Lastly, regarding Ski City USA. While it is branding for the County as a whole, expect that most of those coming from the promotion to stay in downtown SLC due to the amenities that are offered compared to other locations.
This promotion and designation will also help all hotels see increased occupancy during the winter months which will further increase the need for the CCH to push above 1000 rooms and may encourage a 2nd large hotel downtown sooner.
This promotion, if highly successful, will also increase the need for better transit to the Cottonwood Canyons. Which will have a side benefit of more and better transit options on the east side of the valley.
So, while the cost of the promotion isn't really high, the impact (ROI) has a chance of being very big for Salt Lake County and especially Salt Lake City.
