Good to hear! I've never taken a close look at the other buildings (or been there during the day). The renders of the new residences looked stucco-ey, that's what I get for assuming.

They also used Tyndall stone on the new university sign at Kramer and Wascana Parkway.

Always looked stucco-ey to me, but I've never taken a really close look (never occured to me to do so). Glad I was mistaken.

http://www.leaderpost.com/business/Construction+activity+August/10176370/story.html

Construction activity up in August

Other large permits include a new $4-million restaurant at 2515 Dewdney Ave. by Walker Projects; $2.8 million to PCL Construction for student residences at the University of Regina; an $18-million Residents Inn Hotel at 1506 Pasqua St. to FABCA-PMG Projects; $2.1-million permit to PCL for foundation work at the new stadium and a $1.6-million warehouse/office in Ross Industrial Park.

In addition, permits were issued to P3 Architecture for a retail building valued at $1.3 million at 4715 Gordon Rd. in Harbour Landing, and to Thomas Design Builders for $1-million retail building at 101 Victoria Ave. E.

is this the hotel site near the stadium

LP did not check spelling. It is Residence Inn by Marriott. Yes you will be able to see it go up in the stadium webcam.

The restaurant is the new Keg. The last one is the building on Vic and Arcola.

I expect the restaurant at Vic and Arcola is a Timmies model 3080 store based on the builder's portfolio in Winnipeg:

Based on the address, this will be Willow Park Wine & Spirits.

Good grief! A Timmies bottleneck is the last thing we need at Vic & Arcola.

I agree! This does not seem like a good location for a Tim's just because of the traffic it would generate. But...are we sure it is indeed going to be a Tim's? According to Thomas Design Builders' website they also have built Taco Bell, A&W, KFC, Burger King and other restaurants. I would hope that it is a Taco Bell instead of another Tim's.

Yes, I can see the line ups backed up into the driving lanes on Arcola already. Sure glad I don't have to drive that way.

I am not certain, but the footprint is the right size. With access to both Vic and Arcola it is in a sweet spot (pun intended) for a donut shop.

Agree it could be a traffic issue, but the far right lane on Arcola is rarely used in that location as it is not a though lane.

Backing up onto Arcola in that lane isn't ideal, but not terrible either.

Traffic that will become an issue are folks trying to get into Tims in the morning from Victoria crossing the eastbound lanes to so, and then trying to get back onto Vic (or Arcola, for that matter) heading downtown.

Later in the day, when the flow is eastbound, there could be some backup issues on Victoria. Less acute demand at this point, I suspect.

If this is a Tim's, knowing the history of backing up onto surrounding streets, and the Police's position that there is no enforcement measures they can take (cars lining up aren't violating Traffic Safety Act or City Bylaws) the City will need to ensure the drive-thru design minimizes this probability... especially given that a backup could interfere no only with basic traffic flow, but also with the Fire Dept's access to eastbound Vic & Arcola.

You can now see a fairly large mobile crane on the Marriott RI site right behind the nearly assembly stadium tower crane (if you zoom in):

A sweet spot for a coffee shop?? The people who own robins across the way prob don't think so. They might as well close up shop if a timmies is going that close. Why go to robins now when there is a tims across the street (literally) I never really did like that robins location and would drive all the way to the east one just to avoid the hassel of trying to get out of the parking lot.

Who knows they said they have built A&Ws maybe there just building a new one and keeping the old one open till then

It can actually work pretty well to locate a Robin's by a Tim's (the Rochdale does well). What can happen is if people are in a rush, they'll see the Tim's line-up and head to Robin's instead.

North Central Shared Facility Crosses Another Hurdle

http://www.newstalk980.com/story/executive-committee-approves-north-central-regina-facility/416026

It is said that poverty is the cause of many of North Central's issues. I would suggest that poverty is a symptom and not the cause. Regina is one of the richest cities in Canada and has all-time record low unemployment.

Clearly education is one if the biggest problems in this troubled community. I am not sure that a shiny new facility is enough to keep kids in school. The problems are much deeper than that and seem intractable at times.

Obviously something has to be done in North Central. If this money were spent on programs to help residents get a leg up, it would probably largely end up down a black hole, if history is our guide.

I don't pretend to have the solutions. Maybe this is a pieced of puzzle. I am not sure.

Noticed the City's doing a fair bit of sidewalk work downtown the past couple of weeks. Did Rose & 12th, currently replacing a section on east side of Hamilton between the Delta & federal building (this section was in very rough shape).

Good to see - I've had more than one out-of-town colleague compliment downtown Regina, but remark on the state of disrepair the sidewalks are in (typically after tripping/falling).
