Nice - a critical mass of pubs/restaurants is important. In the past, I was sometimes concerned about the ability to get into Beer Bros or O'Hans, so would stick to places in the burbs. If there are several options downtown, I'll go & if one place is full, I can just walk to the next... much more attractive to go downtown with several options available in close proximity.

Saskatoon has that right now. Last time I counted there were 16 pubs downtown. It really helps to draw a crowd in.

You could already see it starting in Regina last weekend. People would move around downtown hopping from pub to pub. Really made the city (particularly Scarth/Hamilton) feel alive.

Was talking with my neighbour today - he works at Co-op. Apparently Co-op is trying to buy the strip mall next to their (new) 25th Ave store - they'd like to tear it & their newly acquired store down and build a larger store (Marketplace format, like the East & NW ones).

Owner of the strip mall is apparently not interested. Likely a bargaining tactic.

It's too bad Regina missed out on the K+S Potash head office. It just opened in Saskatoon, even though the mine site is just NW of Regina. This is a historical thing as the original developer, Potash One always had an office in Saskatoon, although its head office was Vancouver.

Regina is developing a bit of a potash office node to rival Saskatoon, though. Mosaic, Vale, and Rio Tinto all have their Potash HQ's here. Western also has an office in the RBC Blg.

Thanks for the UofR residence pics. I saw a news clip on tv today and they had pan shots of the new buildings and it kind of looked like they are using a type of stone for the exterior? Is that so? I thought UofS was stone U and UofR was stucco U?

Riddelle has some stucco, I think?

The rest are prefab concrete, glass, brick, and the more recent additions (Residence towers (both sets now), new lab, First Nations Uni, and some of Research Park) are stone.

I believe they are using a lot of tyndall stone, it's one of the nice stones out there in my opinion. A number of buildings on campus have the same stone.
