Well Cathay Pacific has announced the start of cargo flights to YYC, believe the start date was in October. Flights will be operated with the 747-800F.

As for Emirates, well this discussion comes around a few times a year. Right now Emirates can only operate 3 weekly flights into Canada, and they chose to operate into YYZ with the A388 (a no brainer really). They "claim" to want to service YYC and YVR if they were given more flights into Canada, but most know that what they really want first and foremost is daily rights into YYZ.

It's much more quiet but Hong Kong/Cathy are maxed out as well in terms of passenger flights so don't expect more unless government approves more landing rights. Which they probably won't.

If anything I would assume an airline from China would make a run.

If Philippine Airlines would do direct YYC->MNL, then it'll take a dent on YVR traffic. Then again PAL sucks to begin with.

From some of your previous posts and this document from the YYC website

the preferred takeoff for aircraft is on Runways 35L/35R. Saying that, which side of the hotel would maximize some airport spotting? Looking west (35L) or looking east (35R). Not sure how much of a fact that 35L starts a little farther south helps or hurts the views. From the document above, it seems like 35R would get the heavies to Europe and most of the YUL, YOW and YYZ traffic so that would probably be my first choice.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd take the 17L/35R views for the good heavy action alone.

I was driving back from Sundre yesterday early evening (on the QE2) and got to behold one of the AC 77W's departing right in front of me on 35R and perform the quick 15 degree turn east. It was awesome.

Got an awesome view of the KLM 777 a few weeks back. Directly over Cross Iron mall on the approach to 17L. What a thing of beauty (the aircraft, not the mall).

That would be awesome. I would be able to fly non-stop to Hong Kong to visit relatives. But if this does happen, it will be in a long time.

17R/35L is going to be closed for maintenance again today, starting at 9am and going until 3pm.

I have been to FAT but not the other two.

FAT stands for Fresno Air Terminal. The airport has been trying for 10-15 years to kill off the FAT moniker and go with FYI for Fresno Yosemite International.

Looks like AC has commenced its domestic winter tweaks.

They typically add flights, then remove them (eg 2 flights to YEG departing at 1800 at the moment). So too early to get an accurate analysis.

However, on the surface it looks like more 763 YYC-YYZ action this winter with the red-eye going daily 763 with a couple of others during the week.

Perhaps a bit of a retreat on YKA as it looks like that's down to 1 daily only.

Will report back once they are completed. Usually takes about 10 days to finalize.

YYC-OGG will stay mainline for this winter season.

AC is pulling widebody capacity off TPac and TransAt and onto transcontinental and Caribbean markets. From YYZ the following cities will see 763 service; LAX, SFO, LAS, YVR, YYC and maybe YEG.
