Just flew YUL-FCO (Rome) on the Rouge 763. The return leg was FCO-YYZ on mainline. Overall the seat comfort in Y class was similar, though service was noticeably "lighter" on Rouge. That said, I slept most of the flight so I didn't really care. Interesting that I wasn't able to select an "upgrade" using E-upgrades on the Rouge leg, though I could have purchased the upgrade for $498 (so a wash in that one). As it was a 763, the premium seats weren't that great.
Interesting in that I flew Rouge both ways YVR-SFO in late July and was comped to premium both ways. (I am SE). Unfortunately they only had one free seat on the outbound so we stayed in the regular seats - so I got to experience both options on that flight.
Overall the seats are okay for shorthaul on the 319, Premium is not really worth it (though they did have a greater pitch as well as the vacant seat).
My big beefs with Rouge are:
1- No real pricing difference from mainline for a definitely inferior product
2- IFE, bad Wifi connectivity and bad/limited selection
3- the age/experience of the FA. Not sure I feel comfortable with them in an emergency. Though the upside is that it appears that my 14 year old son can get a job as a flight attendant!
