Good Ad concept, but not quite finished with the execution. Needs tweaking a bit. It reminds me a little of the Bangerter years and the slogan "Pretty Great State"

Looking at this pic now, it's more startling to me how big of a project it was. I want to see this amount of activity again sometime in downtown SLC.

Also, does anyone else feel like Salt Lake needs more park space? Liberty Park is nice and I love it but I feel like it's small. Denver's City Park is 3 times bigger than Liberty (and that's not including the zoo). Boise's Ann Morrison Park is twice as big. Austin's Zilker is over 4 times the size. Central Park (I know this is apples to oranges but I need to compare) is 10.5 times as large.

I was just trying to see if Salt Lake has any sort of plan to establish another large park. I couldn't find anything substantial that indicates they do, but I think it would be a good idea. Maybe this is crazy or a bad idea, but perhaps one side of North Temple west of I-15 and east of 215 could be transformed into mostly park space, with the other side being lined with businesses/residential/retail and such. Looking at the plan for North Temple Boulevard, creating a large park in the area doesn't seem to be completely out of the question. The Jordan River is there. It still probably wouldn't be a huge park, though.

Does anyone have thoughts about this? Not necessarily the North Temple idea, but about more park space in general.

I think SLC has a large park planned for some areas between approximately 4nd South and 9th South directly to the east of I-15. I think it was in one of the planning documents linked to from this site but on the old thread.

How about expanding Pioneer Park to the block south of it? What's on that block anyways?, gas stations, motels and dealerships?

According to a new report, demand for apartments in Salt Lake County is at a decadelong high. The overall countywide vacancy rate for residential rental housing registered at 3 percent — the lowest in 13 years.

The report also noted that the amount renters pay for apartments has increased 2 percent this year compared with 2013, while the number of rental units rose by 1.1 percent last year.

Released by commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield Commerce, the 2014 Apartment Market study was conducted and authored by James Wood, director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Utah.

“The apartment market in Salt Lake County can best be described as phenomenally strong and solid,” said Kip Paul, executive director of Investment Sales for Cushman & Wakefield Commerce.

Since 2009, the vacancy rate has decreased from 7.2 percent to its current level of just 3 percent.

The study showed the overall average rental rate for all types of apartment units at $865. Renters looking for a two-bedroom, two-bath unit are paying $983, the report stated.

The annual demand for new apartment units in Salt Lake County is estimated at 3,000 units per year, a 2.5 percent increase over last year, Wood wrote. Between 2000 and 2010, the local rental market added 20,659 units, he said.

For the upcoming year, the forecast calls for market conditions for apartment owners to continue to be favorable, with vacancy rates remaining under 5 percent.

Wood said planned projects for 2014 will not destabilize the market. However, more than 6,000 units proposed over the next two years likely will test the depth of the high-end market, particularly in Salt Lake City, he said.

Rental rates will increase 3 percent or more as demand continues to rise from both institutional and private investors, Wood added.

The American Community Survey showed that for 2012, the total occupied rental inventory in the county registered at 117,700 units. Wood said the “shadow market," such as owner-marketed homes, condominiums and townhouses, continues to play a role in satisfying rental demand.

Between 2010 and 2012, the occupied rental inventory increased by 5,500 units, even though only 3,800 new units were built. The difference of 1,700 units was accounted for by the shadow market, he explained.

The occupied rental inventory in 2013 was estimated at 119,500 units, Wood added.

While most people choose larger rental complexes, the study showed that demand in the shadow market is also increasing.

Salt Lake City cemetery would make a beautiful park if we just got rid of all the headstones.

I got shots of Courthouse Construction, 111 Main, KenGarff Facade, the crane going up at 111, and the SJQuinney college of law. I will not be able to get updates of this quality because today I had time to get off of the train (it was bright, too but I will have to commute at 7 in the morning on a busy train so these updates aren't going to be a regular thing. If you guys like them I will try and find time to take some more photos)

Additionally, work on the apartments at 500 E seems to be going well (is it 500 E? the one with the temporary sidewalk). They seem to have the basement dug out and there is some structural stuff on the 1st floor already.

Id like to post everything here so im going to give a slight transit update : buses running to the Sandy Line park and rides now give a station name (for example, 209 SB now says TO Fashion Place West Station (its the diva bus), 200 Says "TO Murray Central Station", etc.) instead of an address (TO 6400 S TRAX) but the buses headed to SLCentral still have varied formatting (some says SLCS, some say Salt Lake Central Station, Some say SLC Station, some say SLC). Ive also noticed that the 228 now lists its destination as the Cottonwood Mall. Is that correct though? I know it doesn't go to Cottonwood Corp, where is the cottonwood mall?
