Folks have the right to not be happy to have a ton of buses running down their quiet street. I wouldn't be happy either. I'd be even more upset if someone responded to me to get out of my own house for a few nights a year if I don't like it.

I made it to my first game against SK and found things went pretty smoothly and there didn't seem to be any traffic issues at all.

Perhaps we could brainstorm solutions as opposed to ripping into those who don't want a ton of buses on their side street, no!?

These are school buses - they are not that noisy.

Of course they have a right to be upset about it and complain about it, it's called freedom of speech and living in an open society. They don't necessarily have the right to endanger themselves and others in their protests, and they don't have the right to block busses running down their public street. But they sure have the right to complain and petition the municipality to mitigate the number of busses running on their street. Do you mean to say we should legislate again people being unhappy with busses on their street, I assume you don't!

Carleton Ravens to host 2014 Panda Game at TD Place

Ottawa, ON- On Saturday, September 20, 2014 the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees will meet up in the annual Panda Game at TD Place, the newly renovated home of the Ottawa REDBLACKS (CFL), Ottawa Fury (NASL) and Ottawa 67’s (OHL).

Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

“The Panda Game is a storied football event, like the Vanier Cup and the Grey Cup that assembles fans in the spirit of history, tradition and competition,” says Jeff Hunt, President OSEG Sports.

“We’re honoured and excited to be hosting the Panda Game at TD Place, where thousands of fans of the Ravens, the Gee-Gees and sport in general will gather to celebrate the rebirth not only of an outstanding Ottawa sports tradition, but also of a new Lansdowne.”

The friendly football rivalry between Ottawa’s two universities started in 1955 and has its foundations in a little stuffed panda nicknamed “Pedro”.

The Panda Game was reborn in October 2013 with the return of the Carleton Ravens football program after a 15 year hiatus. Last year’s contest was held at Gee-Gees Field with the University of Ottawa coming out on top 35-10. For Carleton fans the highlight of the game was a CIS record-tying 129 yard touchdown by defensive back Tunde Adeleke.

This time around, the game will be played at a spectacular new venue that has everybody in Ottawa talking. Playing the “big game” at TD Place is a great backdrop for CIS football and will provide a terrific destination for both student bodies and the Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec football communities.

“We (Carleton and uOttawa) are extremely pleased to be at Lansdowne for the Panda football game,” stated Jennifer Brenning, Director of Recreation and Athletics at Carleton University. “We want to re-build a positive tradition in the spectacular 24,000 seat, transformed stadium, TD Place. Our student-athletes will have an exceptional experience playing in this first class CFL facility. We hope the community comes out in full force to support these talented student-athletes and watch some great university football. ”

The first Panda Game was played at Lansdowne Park in 1955 with Carleton winning 14-6. The annual event was played at Lansdowne until 1998 when Carleton cancelled their football program after that season. During the 44 years of competition, uOttawa owned a 32-12 overall record. Carleton’s last Panda win came in 1994 when they defeated the Gee-Gees 27-15.

This year’s match will be the first Panda Game at the Bank Street facility in 16 years. In that 1998 game, Ottawa defeated Carleton 59-17.

Back in the late nineteenth century, when the Ottawa Agricultural Society announced that its fairgrounds would thereafter be the site of an annual exhibition, many Ottawans grumbled: why, when the city barely extended south beyond what is now McLeod Street, would you hold a fair so far from the city?

And while the grousing never entirely abated — more than a century later, for example, numerous Glebe residents continued to complain about the traffic and noise that the Ex produced — the city by and large embraced Lansdowne Park, both geographically as Ottawa extended miles beyond in all directions and enveloped the park into its central core, and socially, as it became the go-to place not just for agricultural fairs and their attendant entertainments, but for music concerts, sporting events, political conventions, military exercises, royal visits and farmers’ markets.

"by that time in the evening, the traffic is so light on the streets, we feel that they can still be an effective, efficient route," chernushenko said of the main routes.

Lakeside residents have been protesting the use of their street - saying it was dangerous to run 500 shuttle buses up their small road every redblacks and fury game.

Thirty-five per cent of shuttles will still be running along lakeside, but chernushenko said they will still be looking at improvements that they can make.
