But on a different note! ...
Very cool! I've just noticed as I've been exploring now -- and I'm pretty sure someone mentioned before -- that Google Earth and Google Maps on browsers with Earth plug-in, features many major (Canadian) cities (Regina included, but not yet Saskatoon, Toronto, Ottawa, Maritime cities, etc.) with much of their respective major structures and land features rendered in 3D. It looks like a largely automated process for rendering, though. Almost all structures/features that have not been already skillfully and manually rendered like houses, monuments, even trees, billboard signs, some traffic lights/standards and vehicles -- almost anything that projects up from the ground -- have had an attempt at being rendered to varying degrees of, but mostly good success. From higher elevations, the view is quite impressive as you "fly" over the city, but as you zoom in, you can increasingly notice inadequacies in details and trueness of many of the items rendered. Albert Street Bridge is a mess, as is the airliner on the apron of the airport, and likewise the jetways, as examples! And not just Regina, but also for cities similarly 3D-rendered, like Calgary, Vancouver, etc.!
It looks to be a very impressive technology that Google has. I'm sure they will improve!
