Great news about CX Cargo!

More 748s for YYC. For you spotters lets hope the flights don't operate between 0100-0300 or the like.

They are truly some really long birds!

Assume Cargolux still flies them in regularly?

Perhaps we will see Asiana again or Korean Air.

Usually one of the Cargolux flights each week has the 748 on it.

Slight incident today, WS1680 YYC-JFK aborted takeoff (unknown why-thought it may be engine related) but definitely blew a tire or two, either during the takeoff run or while braking. Pilot immediately called for fire services. Closed 17L/35R for a couple of hours. ACA009+ inbound from the west asked to land 17L but had to go around inside the marker due to WS aborting.

Hard luck for ACA, pilots prob wanted 17L just to pop their pavement cherry, then still had to land 17R...!

Edit: quick search shows it was just a tire blowout... Couldn't have been going that fast, though. Aborted within first quarter of the runway.

Glad it was a relatively minor event that thanks to training was a non-issue.

Yeah just looked at the cargo scheds on cargolux.com and the 748F is indeed on 2 of the 3 weekly flights.

"It was on the new runway, which is twice as long as the old runway..."
"because JFK is so busy, the airline had to call ahead and book a specific runway for the extra plane"

Read above, for BA to work, most pax need to buy up. The lack of buy up is what sunk LH out of YYC and it will sink BA too.

I just took a look at the cost for my next trip, it would be an extra ~$780. If I get a new job, I'll deffo be able to consider it.

Lower half of Malaysia planes are painted grey, some are speculating that may have contributed to a possible misidentification. I dunno man. Might be tough for MH to recover from this one.

That's a bunch of BS. This is reminiscent of the US Military shooting down Iran Air 655 in 1988. They claimed the plane didn't identify itself, whereas it had. They claimed it was not a registered course, which it was. They claimed it was an F14 speeding in to attack them, whereas it was an Airbus slowly ascending in Irani airspace. They claimed all sorts of crap. At the end of the day, it was found that the US military had the registered course, and had the correct messages from the plane identifying it, but still shot it down killing 290 civilians on board.

So you're saying the USA sending in cruise missiles from a navy ship, taking out a commercial airliner and the 290 people on board on a registered flightpath and in foreign airspace, ascending from a commercial airport and issuing proper internationally recognizable identification signals, was "rational"???

Even when we find out that the missile in the Ukraine case came from rebel territory, and that it was a Russian made weapon, it doesn't prove anything. Do you see the USA owning up to that (let alone when their military shot down a civilian aircraft)?

Any hope we'd see a direct passenger service to HK? That would be very noteworthy.

Curious how most airlines choose either cargo or passenger. Why can't more be blended. I've taken the Toronto Calgary red-eye a couple times, and it barely has passengers, but is an important flight for AC cargo I believe. Wondering why there is not more of such blended service.

Man portable missiles can't hit something that high. For an operational surface to air missile you you are talking about 5 vehicles minimum, stocked with million dollar missiles. Terrible oversight if the system's IFF system was turned off or ignored.
