I'm on the understanding that a B737-200 weighs about 51 tons.

I'm of the understanding that it was always weight restricted for departures, likely for noise purposes (< 44,100 lbs). During the windstorm of a few years ago, I was working arrival and had an MD-83, A320, and plenty of 737's land on 26 (then 25). I remember Lufthansa's A343 being offered 25 as well but he instead opted for 28.

I ripped up to work that day because I was worried we'd be losing plywood all over the yard, good thing the majority was strapped/weighted down. Only a few sheets got loose. I could look over across McCall lake and see the airliners landing on 25, was crazy to see.

Hey Nick/cyeg66, on the OIS page what does it mean when the details say MIDS/Noise?

I'm assuming Noise has to do with noise abatement procedures, just not sure on MIDS.

I'd imagine it would be short for Midnight operation, which we usually land 29, depart 35L. MIDS is a Nav Canada system, but it's not used by ATC, but by FSS. So I don't imagine that's what they mean.

Since Asiana Cargo pulled out that has been a void for Asia cargo service.

Routing is, Hong Kong-Anchorage-New York (JFK)-Calgary-Hong Kong (Tuesdays) and Hong Kong-Anchorage-New York (JFK)-Columbus-Calgary-Hong Kong (Fridays). No times listed yet that I can find.

Is Anchorage just a tech stop? Does the 748 not have long enough legs to make Hong Kong-New York, I thought it would have.

Don't think even the 7478F can make a JFK-HKG fully loaded, and in the world of air cargo I'm guessing they'd rather make stops than have non 100% cargo capacity loaded up.

ANC is a huge cargo hub as many carriers fly cargo into ANC and feed the Asian freighters.

Its not uncommon to see 10 747F's of various models parked at ANC loading and unloading at once, in addition to MD-11F's, 777F's etc...

Most International cargo routes are now multi stop as Bigtime said to ensure full(er) loads, Some carriers even do ''around the world'' cargo flights.

Yup, kind of cool though that the YYC sector will always be non-stop to HKG (at least for now). I'm guessing that bird will eat up a lot of runway as a result.

Interesting, according to this, looks to be about 50 tonnes less to do the full run. Looks like much more than 4,400nmi (i.e. Hong Kong Anchorage) the capacity starts to drop.

Looks like they'll be weight limited out of YYC to get the range. Probably ~20 tonnes under max

Hong Kong is also a much more desirable link for Cargo compared to Tokyo with a larger inbound/outbound tonnage for feed and its the worlds largest (for tonnage) cargo hub having handled over 4 million tonnes in the last 12 months.

This should stick around when compared to Asiana's Seoul flight simply for the amount of ''Freight connections'' it will offer.

Cargo traffic is primarily eastward bound with about 1/2 as much demand going west. YYC-HKG should be okay with the weight restriction (e.g. the restriction will only eat into excess supply and not leave cargo on the dock).
