So, when are we all getting together and drinking here? Mind you, some of us have to plan a week in advance on account of not being single, loaf abouts with nary a concern in the world expect how to Kickstart a drone.

It's gorgeous... and you're absolutely right. But it's in that league because it was built by others a century ago. There really isn't any way the rest of the development could have, or even should have, been as good as US itself.

There is so much unintentional self awareness of what US is and isn't that it's priceless.

I vote August 8th... I'll be in town to crash your get together then.

I just had a friend buy a nice place near Broadway/Hampden for $200k. Lots of decent restaurants to walk to and the train is like 1/2 a mile away.

Is the roped off part with the couches and shuffleboards - 80% of the Hall - part of the Terminal Bar? Are the shuffleboards going to permanently be in the middle of the Hall on that platform?

If so, it's awful. If not, what will be the permanent state of this space?

I believe that this will be the platform used for public beheadings once Sharia law is imposed by the Caliph Obama in accordance with The Prophet PBUH.

(Seriously, it seems like a great stand for live performances)

Outside of US being so darn small, the structure is "priceless." Remember, US was built when Denver was a small city, compared to KC, St Louis, Cincinnati, etc. (With the ropes up, the interior place is truly tiny.)

In addition, US was built as a highly functional structure with about 10 through tracks. The railroad industry wanted something supremely functional, yet substantial enough to sell both railroads being cutting edge technologically, and, financially secure (people remember get rich schemes, and the railroad age was filled with shady characters).

Unfortunately, when the DUS transportation complex is viewed as a unit in 2014, the complex does not approach early 20th Century functionality.

I would love US if it was not part of the Complex, and, poor design overall had not been at the expense of a very beautiful building.

^^ Seems like Z Block was in the news over a planning issue or something but haven't heard squat about 999 17th Street.

So is bunt_q leading the Mayor's reelection bid or what?
Quote:
He discussed ... and implored Colorado legislators to pass a bill next year that would reform the state’s construction-defects law in order to spur the building of condominiums once again.

But in order for this “Transit Oriented Denver” strategy to thrive, Hancock said, the Legislature must do what it failed to do in 2014— pass a bill that eases up some of the legal restrictions...

So is this why many prefer to live downtown and are willing to pay the living costs?

photo credits to DenveriJournal.com southbound from the Tech Center

It would seem of course that the photo also indicates there's no shortage of bodies preferring the suburbs. Yuck.

What's Denver going to do? Not sure CDOT experimenting with lane configurations daily is much of an answer.

Hey, it's what we can do in the land of TABOR. This and user access fees.

I work by "Z Block" and heard recently that it is moving forward but with a hotel at the corner of the 19th & Wazee, residential along Blake and office space at 18th & Wazee. I don't know the timeline for construction.

Since I am right next to Union Station everyday it's great to finally see it get finished. I haven't been inside yet but noticed Snooze was open with people sitting on the patio, as well as Stoic & Genuine and The Kitchen Next Door, both of which open up to the fountain plaza. To me though the entrance feels odd with the side doors and the wide open space along Wynkoop. Will they be driving cars on this once the hotel is fully open? What is the fenced in patio at the front of Union Station, outdoor space for the Terminal Bar ?

“Last year, we set a goal to create, rehabilitate or preserve 600 affordable housing units annually over five years,” Hancock said. “I am happy to announce that in our first year we exceeded that goal, helping to deliver more than 700 affordable housing units. We are on track to beat it again this year.” - See more at: http://www.cpr.org/news/story/hancock-an...-state-city-address#sthash.smz5Q5bw.dpuf

I think it is far from enough. We need like 1500. I am sure a big tower like this could be in order but not that tall. I would prefer a few smaller ones placed around town so they are not concentrated and it will have a smaller impact on crime, school's etc.

A couple meetings coming up that folks may be interested in:

RTD CRE

You're invited to a public meeting about the Central Rail Extension Mobility Study. The study will identify the most feasible rail transit route and operating plan to provide a direct rail connection with no transfers between downtown Denver and the future 38th + Blake Station on the East Rail Line to the airport.

Come learn about the options, ask questions and provide your input.

Wednesday, July 16
Meeting: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Presentation at 6:00 p.m.
St. Charles Recreation Center
3777 Lafayette St.
Denver, CO 80205

To get to the meeting by transit use RTD bus routes 12 or 44. The meeting is accessible by the D9 bike route. There is limited parking in the recreation center's parking lot on Lafayette, but ample street parking nearby. The nearest B-Cycle station is located at 28th/Larimer Street.

More Info

9th + Colorado Development Update:

Tuesday, July 15th
Meeting: 6:00pm
Church of Christ
1100 Dahlia St.
Denver, CO 80220

I can finish the study for them right here, right now. The "most feasible rail transit route ... to provide a direct rail connection with no transfers between downtown Denver and the future 38th + Blake Station" is the airport train. I mean, we're meant to believe that Union Station is right in the thick of it all. And that's actually pretty true for the airport train. So there's really no better way to connect those two.

Now, if the study was aiming to link Central Denver, more broadly, to the 38th + Blake Station, fine. But if what's above is truly the stated objective, then they should give me a $1 million consulting fee and call it good.
