Agreed. I am still awaiting announcement about the old May Company building transformation and hoping we will see a major corporate relocation there!

All things considered, given the positives and negatives that currently exist in DTLA, it is important to remember that some very, very big investors are now spending a great deal of effort and money betting on the core's rebirth. Also keep in mind that these are very big players who do their homework and are not inclined to make mistakes. The most recent topics that have been on this forum concerning homelessness, vandalism, crime, and overall blight remind me of the times I experienced as a student while traveling through downtown San Francisco in the late 1970s early 1980s. The city, of course, had tremendous potential to be truly great, but it was climbing out of its own decline, and parts of it were awful. Market street had its very dodgy parts, and I was warned not to venture south to Folsom at night or risk getting mugged. The homeless literally owned Market street at night as well as the Civic center and tenderloin, and oftentimes these areas had the stench of urine and feces. Sound familiar? Although I haven't been north in 27 years I hear that it is very nice.

"One of the Downtown skyline's most iconic buildings, the US Bank Tower, will be keeping its name. Last month, OUE announced that its Americas subsidiary, headed by president Richard Stockton, signed a 10-year renewal with the bank for 105k SF of office and retail space. Richard, who also will be speaking at our event, says that retaining US Bank as the tower's anchor tenant was a "key objective." The lease, which includes an option to extend for an additional decade, was one of 13 new and renewal deals totaling 172k SF since OUE acquired the building last June. Regarding college station, hope they go with the towers option but, geez 1054 parking spaces next to a train station, sheesh would've been nice to see that no parking minimum being used with the nearby Cornfields developments issued here as well, go figure!

U.S. Bank..NOOOOOO, I want to see Library Tower's crown unbastardized in my lifetime, dammit!

I believe its supposed to happen this month (July) or August. Same with the announcement of tenants at The Bloc, and likely the tenant announcements for Onni & iHope towers. So lots of big retail news coming before the end of summer.

BTW I've departed this thread (for the most part). I'll still read it for the entertainment, but from now on I'll be posting in my own DTLA Photo thread:

Anyone know about this?? A beautiful building in the jewelry district is being turned into housing and the ground floor into restaurants and a bar/loung.

I think there was some talk of it a few weeks back. Brigham had a post about it. While this is probably good news, there are no entitlements or timeline, so I'm not holding my breath.

It's minor news, but this thread has to get back on track somehow. Eater LA reports that the Pasadena-based Argentinian restaurant 1810 Argentinian is set to open this weekend at 9th and Spring/Main. It's in the former L'Angolo Cafe space, and they've done a good job of replacing its very outdated old look. It's impressive to see how much this section of 9th St has changed in the last few years.

Interesting! Someone is actually interested in that lot! I park there every time I come to downtown. It's a prime spot. Everything within a small proximity.

As for 1810, it's a welcomed addition. I'm Argentine myself and I can't wait to try their asado.

I stopped at the Grand Central Market on Sunday and snapped a couple of pics. Things are definitely changing in there, in a good way imo.

I wasnt impressed either a couple of weeks ago, but it sure beats the heck out of the place 3 years ago.

but

Eggslut is such a douchey name...like nails on a chalkboard, so awful.

I like Wexlers Deli, since it's an actual deli that sells meat, but the other new additions make the Grand Central Market seem more like a food court than an actual market. So far, the GCM is the greatest casualty of DT gentrification to me.

Looks like Metropolis is a go. Hopefully we see equipment on site soon. Provided they have their engineering documents prepared and approved.

This is the kind of improvements I like to see. The big projects like the Ace Hotel are the anchors but its these smaller improvements that make the street one you want to walk.

It was part market, part food court before. They've just upgraded some of the parts. Berlin Currywurst and G&B are really great additions to the area.
