quite seriously, while the style....I guess it's called italian renaissance or romanesque?....seems a bit kitschy, it's still all in good fun. It's certainly better than the very drab 1970s shopping ctr that USC students have been forced to tolerate for over 30 yrs.

I recall a time when I felt bad for the kids at SC since they, unlike their counterparts at UCLA....who had samo, westwood, brentwood & century city in their neck of the woods....were stuck with the mostly sketchy hoods around fig & jefferson, & a very sleepy but also equally sketchy dtla.

my, how times have changed!

I took some friends staying at a hotel around UCLA out to dinner late last yr & the thing that struck me was how to a young adventurous college student, that part of LA must seem rather sterile & homogenized, while the hoods that USC students can now take advantage of must seem far more interesting & relevant.

as for the lot on 9th st between grand & olive, the fencing & green tarp around it for a brief time must have been installed by mistake. I'm guessing the company hired to erect it was supposed to have gone to another part of dtla? Oops!

Here are some raw photos I took of the Globe relighting. A huge crowd came and even the news showed up! It turned out better than I expected to be honest. It's bright! The only downside was it was oddly off when I came back around 11. They turned on Tower for this event and they didn't even leave Globe on for the rest of the evening Regardless, it shouldn't detract from it's beautiful look.

Thank you for the USC Village pics!! I personally love the old college-themed architecture, which I know many on here will not but it fits the USC campus. Regardless of tastes this looks to be a game-changer for the whole area and will speed gentrification. For those familiar with San Diego I can see the University Park area becoming a North and South Park like community, which would be fantastic.

I really appreciate the honesty in this last rendering, showing that they're not going to bother finishing the tops of the buildings, but instead are allowing space for A/C units and the like. Won't matter from the ground, but it's good to see!

Hi, New to the forum. Just moved to LA from the Midwest. um. I believe G12 has begun, the lot across the street from that AT&T building?, I was downtown today and a lot of dirt and was being taken out and foundation footings had begun, looked cool.

Santa Monica is all 7 story boxes and it has a great feeling to it. The rents are also lower in the boxes. We can't have all 8th & Hope's in DTLA, not everyone can afford $2,500 base rents.

Not sure where you've been, but the rents in these new 7 stories is basically 2kish to start for 600sqft-ish. So there you go. Also, Santa Monica is not downtown.

City Working on Plan to Put a Bike Path Right in the LA River

The LA City Council voted today to have city engineers look into a plan to link up the LA River bike path from Maywood to Elysian Valley, through Downtown—a long-bemoaned gap—via a bikeway directly in the river channel, reports the LA Times. The proposed path would provide access to the concrete river bottom by way of three ramps; once on the trail, riders would be able to bike from Griffith Park all the way to Long Beach.

...Even with city approval, the project would still need to be approved by the Army Corps of Engineers and the LA County Board of Supes.
