^ To be fair, I'm a little leery of the P3 process, myself (to say nothing of the outcome), but the federal government has basically left us no choice and no say at all in the matter. I just really hope that we get the benefits that are supposed to come with it, while having learned lessons from the pitfalls of other P3 projects and worked to mitigate them.

I got a reply back from Ben on my email; I won't quote it directly since there's a reasonable expectation of the correspondence being private, but the gist of it is that there's basically no way to reverse the decision. The "Save Our Footbridge" group is basically just wasting everyone's time (and surely some people's money) at this point.

School closures may have a long-lasting ripple effect
Neighbourhoods still hurting years later, residents say

Andrea Sands
Edmonton Journal

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

With Edmonton Public Schools poised to close its first batch of schools since 2010, community members who endured the last round of closures say the repercussions are still felt today. The effects this time should be less painful, however, because the three schools that close will be replaced with a single new K-9 school to open in 2016.

Edmonton Public Schools will announce Tuesday which of three communities - Westmount, Highlands and Beverly Heights - is recommended for the closures and replacement school. Trustees will review that recommendation and vote later this month...

Will this pass the smell test?
We need debate on the wisdom of building gas plants in city

Paula Simons
Edmonton Journal

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Welcome to the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park, northwest of the Manning Freeway, near 17th Street NE and 259th Avenue NE.

First proposed by the city in 2008, the industrial park, which sprawls across 49 square kilometres, or 12,009 acres, was supposed be a precinct for petrochemical-related manufacturing businesses. Billed as the second-largest in the world, it was supposed to piggyback on the growth of Upgrader Alley. It was sold as Edmonton's chance to expand its tax base, to compete with Sturgeon, Strathcona and Leduc counties for industrial revenues. At one point, city planners boasted the park would employ 85,000...

City mulls Fort Edmonton upgrade

Brent Wittmeier
Edmonton Journal

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Fort Edmonton can't even add a new toilet due to its antiquated sewage system, but a $150-million upgrade could transform it into a year-round destination that celebrates Edmonton's aboriginal history.

Plans to rehabilitate and expand the city facility were heard Monday before city council's community services committee.

Significant funding for the project could come from the federal government's plans to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday in 2017, said Doug Goss, chair of the non-profit company that manages Fort Edmonton...

Northern Gateway pipeline approved

A Canadian flag is displayed with artwork of oil drops on it during a protest against the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline in Vancouver, B.C., on Saturday May 10, 2014. Protests were held in cities across Canada Saturday in opposition to the proposed pipeline that would carry Alberta oil 1,200-kilometres across Alberta and British Columbia to the northwest coast community of Kitimat, where the oil will be shipped overseas by oil tankers.

The federal Conservative government has approved the Enbridge Northern Gateway oilsands pipeline.

The 1,178-kilometre Northern Gateway pipeline would transport up to 525,000 barrels of oil per day from Bruderheim, Alta., near Edmonton, to the deep-water port of Kitimat in northwestern B.C., where the oilsands product would be loaded onto supertankers and shipped to new Pacific Rim markets.

A second, smaller eastbound pipeline would carry 193,000 barrels of condensate per day, a product used to thin oil for pipeline transport.

Maybe Enbridge will be needing more employees here in Edmonton? Enough to staff another new tower?

They were already looking at consolidating their offices here. There was the rumour circulating that they were looking at 102 St Centre.

Correct, 1 of 2-3 choices we were hearing.

Also, with Yardstick coming downtown... the 'start-up' city impact is slowly starting
up

That's awesome!
43 stories of office you have to think will easily crack the 170m mark.
Bye bye Epcor as the city's tallest (cheater spires and all) .

Great news about Northern Gateway as well. In fact lots of great news on this page.
