Equally easy to understand was my point: a private business can open a major office at the GTH just as SaskPower plans to do. The GTHA is under no obligation to conform to the City of Regina's zoning bylaws, much less the CoR's Office Policy.

At a practical level, of course, we can expect the GTHA will foster a positive working relationship with the CoR... I wouldn't expect to see a series of major offices popping up out there. This said, I also wouldn't expect GTHA to turn away a major office that aligns well with the GTH's mandate just because the City would prefer offices downtown.

Maybe the RM of Sherwood can buy some land and build a subdivision in the GTH.

LOL! Complete with a toboggan hill like Eberleville, I presume?

I'm looking forward to when the other side is completed. Will definitely make for a nice little alley between the buildings there.

That's just a given. They would never move out of their iconic 'Sine Wave' building on Vic Ave.

Right - but there will be office workers (not just warehouse/logistics-related functions) at the GTH. I know of some SaskPower staff who currerently work downtown offices who have been told they will be moved to the GTH office building.

Not a huge surprise. The cost of new construction is astronomical in Regina. I expect they were also getting next to nothing for the old building.

So what are they going to do then about the current building? My understanding is that it is in really bad shape. Last year they had a multi-floor flood for example, and there are concerns about the safety of the structure in the medium-term. They've filled the entire building, so the only way to do actual repairs is to move people out from entire floors at a time, which would be incredibly disruptive.

My guess... It's election time soon... So the crowns will have to cut all spending... In some ways, it still is the same old Sask.

What I heard is they will lease a floor somewhere else and rehab one floor at a time in the old building.

Ag Canada moving into Tower 3, and FCC consolidating many offices into their existing building (in Ag's former space), actually freed up a fair bit of space in BMO, Century Plaza, and Conexus... likely much of this has been snapped up, but there's certainly sufficient available "swing space" to accomodate 1 or 2 floors of SGI as the renos take place.

(Feds also have a fair bit of unused space in Tower 3 - might be open to a temporary sublet)

In other words, you can't build an office out there. They're not bound by city bylaw, which is ridiculous and they never should have been made autonomous. But the rules are very strict on what you can and cannot do. Crowns, of course, are exempt.

I will even go as far as considering to vote for a new Provincial party if the stadium is a disappointment like this. SAD day in the QC......
