Canadian Pacific Railway wouldn't of relocated there if they didn't feel it economically viable for a long period of time.

These things take a while to get going we are only on year 5-6? Once the 4-lane to dewdney gets finished I think there will be more development announced.
Probably best to give it time, and flexibility to grow.

However, it's not all sunshine & puppies - logistics & supply chain management are fiercely competitive. Winnipeg's touting an equivalent; Chicago has several; Michigan is positioning themselves as a transportation hub (with access to the Atlantic via Halifax); Texas has dozens; etc... and many have advantages that GTH doesn't (yet) have (e.g. Winnipeg's CentrePoint Canada has strong Federal backing).

The facilities & infrastructure are almost becoming commodities - to many of the major companies, where they locate (Regina vs. Winnipeg vs. Texas) is almost irrelevant. Access to a top-notch logistics services (including specialized subcontractors & labour); Foreign Trade Zone-like status; etc becomes key.

GTH is certainly setting things up for success - but that's just the foundation... then comes the wooing, and the competition with dozens of other centres across North America.

It seems rational that SLGA would set up at GTH given the shipments and distribution but I was originally having trouble understanding why Sask power would set up at GTH on what would otherwise be a prime spot for someone that GTH was trying to "woo". (Sask power is a rather captive client and could just have easily been placed out by the lagoons) So is the logic (if there is logic) that Sask Power's presence will help the necessary critical infrastructure get a foothold out at GTH that would in turn make things more appealing for other non government entities? Or are they simply recouping costs invested on infrastructure otherwise being unused?

I believe it is all those things but also that there is no other serviced industrial land available. Plus it has or will have great access.

Yes it will. With its own interchange and 4-lane service to three major highways. I think that it will be successful just, like was said above, have to give it some time.

The GTH bullshit. It's public money competing with private money and thus the private sphere loses. Serviced industrial land there is selling for less than half of what it costs elsewhere in Regina yet the GTH is paying ridiculous sums to acquire its land.

SaskPower's play out there is also ridiculous. They are basically building offices for 1000 workers when they should be forced to locate them downtown, like private businesses.

The GTH is extremely shady.

Noticed Saskatoon Co-op posted on Facebook that they took over the Safeway store at 12:01 am this morning. They were closed today, but will open tomorrow at noon. Talk about a tight turn-around!

Sherwood Co-op will open at Albert & 25th on May 23rd - it's still open as a Safeway, wonder if they'll execute the same turnaround as Saskatoon did.

Very anticipated and long time coming research center opens in Regina. I know the girl in the picture, a masters student under Dr. Levitt. Been a long 4 years to get all the certifications for this laboratory, so excited to have this on campus!!!

So in the last two days you have said the stadium won't happen and the GTH is shady. It took a while but welcome to the board Mr. Chad Novak.

Who, precisely, is "forcing" private businesses to locate downtown? Encouraging, perhaps... forcing? Nope.

Took the words out of my mouth it seem that Winnipeg is more establish than we are at this time but it seem from what I have read on their forums infrastructure seem to be a issues for them with a lot of them saying there lots of talk about planing but no doing and also some of them talking about how in sask we are already building not just talking, this might get some companies changing there minds and may pick regina seeing us as a more bussiness friendly environment sask and regina is already seen as a go to place we see that with are population increases and job number are the best in the country .

Stadium anticipation

City mum on stadium design unveiling

Work was underway at the new stadium project site at Evraz Place with crews installing water lines on April 11, 2014.

REGINA — City of Regina officials are tight-lipped concerning the status of one of the municipality’s highest profile projects: the new stadium. The buzz on social media this week is that Queen City residents could see design plans for the stadium next week, and that the city will be announcing even sooner how the public can partake...Preliminary construction is already underway at Evraz Place, the site of the new stadium.

Last time I was at Shoppers south (February), construction on the expansion was well underway and the post office portion was already completed. They are expanding into the old Eyes location, as well as out the other side, I believe. The expansion should definitely be done by now.

**...oops. this was already replied to. Guess I should do my reading before throwing in my two cents! **

I said SGI might not happen. The stadium will definitely happen.

The GTH is, and remains, bullshit. Tell me one thing incorrect I said about the GTH.

The GTH is a logistics hub designed around transportation. If you wanted to place your manufacturing company or your storage company there you would not be allowed to. Yet SaskPower gets 145 acres of offices and general storage. Yep. Nothing odd there.

The City of Regina. This is very easy to understand. The City of Regina limits the amount of suburban office development allowed in the city in an effort to force the downtown as the place for office work.
