beautiful pictures!
but where are the people? it looks like the city was evacuated.

Time of day, I bet. I get too embarrassed photographing busy streets here most of the time too so I got our really early morning.

I'm not going to pretend that Winnipeg gets the pedestrian volumes of Shibuya, but there are generally people on the street most times of the day. Failing that, there are usually at least plenty of cars and buses around. The absence of both in Morningrise's photos can only lead me to believe that set was taken early on a Sunday morning.

BTW awesome Calgary photos, Chadillaccc. Looks like perfect walking weather!

None that I am aware of but there may very well be some plans in place.

Little Detroit on the Prairies, I s'pose. I have heard a lot of adjectives affixed to Winnipeg, but scummy is definitely new. I guess we're going downhill in the eyes of the onlookers abroad.

The East End of St. John's, including the Bally Haly Country Club and the former Fort Pepperell American military base in Pleasantville. You can see the white buildings that are still owned by the Government of Canada in the foreground, and the colourful buildings that have been returned to the City of St. John's in the background. There are lots of new developments - apartment buildings and homes mostly - in that area.

At the upper left is the former American military base Red Cliff. Adjacent to that (looks like a quarry) is Robin Hood Bay, the waste management facility for the City of St. John's. The body of water on the right is Quidi Vidi Lake, which drains into the Atlantic through that little dip in the hills immediately above. Down there is the village of Quidi Vidi.

Yes, indeed, these were taken around 8:00 on a Sunday morning as it was the only point in my three days in Winnipeg where I had enough free time to go on a nice leisurely walk through the city. I do want to go back at some point where I actually have enough time to check it out more extensively.

Well, the prairies in general have the general reputation of being cold, flat, boring, crime-ridden, etc. but Winnipeg for whatever reason seems to have it worse. Unfortunately I just don't hear many positive things about it most of the time. Of course, having grown up in Saskatoon I knew that stereotypes weren't everything and fully expected it to be nicer than what people were saying, and indeed it was. But it does definitely get a bad rep from a lot of people.

Can you re-post that image of signal hill (or something like that) with the vivid red flowers all over the place? Im trying to show my co-worker the red flowers but can find them anywhere. I tried google images with a bunch of different search criteria.......

Thank!
