They were/are considering it along with some other locations... parking there is an issue for potential tenants.

Though I still kinda wish the Edmonton Club was a valley-facing restaurant, I'm glad to see these guys moving to the core.

I noticed today that footings were going in on the south side of 104ave at the arena site. Also the crane is being assembled at the CWB site on jasper.

Better than what was initially planned. No where near what should be there. But Great for a suburb.

Everybody seems hung up on the office vacancies and head offices, mark my words Edmonton will be luring back head offices to the downtown core, once it is revitalized and leases start to end down south I see a migration north to better lease deals and a vibrant trendy place to be . Next few years is the time where Edmonton needs to showcased as the place you want your corporate offices to be. I predict 6 new downtown office skyscrapers 25 floors and up by year 2020 proposed and under construction. along With 10-15 high rise Condo's And Edmonton's population city wise at the brink of a million.

I would like it if you were right, but I don't see many companies uprooting from Calgary, perhaps they will just have a greater presence in Edmonton.

That would be incredible news if it went through. Enbridge in 102nd would have this city's marquee company it it's marquee building.

Unfortunately, don't expect too many if any corporate HO relocations. They simply don't happen that often period. Instead, we are and should be focusing on growing our our homegrown companies. There are a number of smaller start-ups that are making their mark and growing. There are also a number of established companies that are poised to grow over the next number of years. Reality is that our office market will continue to be dominated by smaller and mid-sized companies and there's nothing wrong with that.

Galleria project could be risky for taxpayers, report says
Proposal calls for new office tower to generate funds for cultural sites

Sheila Pratt
Edmonton Journal

Monday, April 14, 2014

A new city report warns that taxpayers could be on the hook if the $1-billion Galleria project - composed of a downtown office tower, theatres and university classrooms - experiences financial problems.

The report also says that given the rising downtown vacancy rate, another new tower could cause downward pressure on rents and reduce the city tax revenue set aside to support the public-private partnership, which would include the University of Alberta...

"But at a closed meeting in February, the foundation asked for a climate-controlled pedway with moving sidewalks that will cost $25 million to $40 million. Without that, the U of A will not participate."

Hahaha. You know what will be pretty much the only factor on whether the U of A takes the space or not? Whether the provincial government covers its rent 100% or not.

Indeed. What an odd statement.

There's already downward pressure on lease rates right now. If they have a tenant for the tower then great. Get financing and build it. But given what else is going on right now, this is not the time for speculation

Saw a sign up on the corner of 117st and 107ave by Carrington. Three of four storey condo, I forget the name it said but I don't think it has ever been mentioned?

No, we were talking about it before. Vibe or something.

They bought the site from Tessco when they went belly up. Removal of commercial from the main floor from Tescco's design is a concern and the relegation to the separate building that may or may not ever get built is not ideal.

It was actually Time Developments that went under. I don't like hearing about removing the retail. I assume they will have retail along 107 Avenue?
