This is somewhat fascinating theory but not sure if technically its possible???

Again, that would all depend on the aircraft's proximity to the primary radar source. As refueling aircraft wih F-16's or F-15's pass near YYC source, we can actually easily see the fighter's primary returns. The tanker is the only one squawking during altitude reservation flights such as these. Now, a target the size of a 777 has a pretty significant cross section and would be easily detectable from quite a range. The SIA68 flight would be sending an ambiguous return for the time they were "coupled". Wicked piloting skills if he could tail the other 777 without anyone knowing. James Bond shit right there. At least it's one of the more entertaining theories that's been pitched in a while.

HOU looks good on paper not in practice (IMHO). The geographic make up of Houston is that a significant part of the head office and regional office structure occurs along the Houston Energy Corridor (HEC). The HEC is located in Western side of Houston along Katy Freeway over by George Bush and Eldridge parks. Additionally a lot of oilfield service companies are located in Northwest Houston.

HOU is located in SE quadrant fairly close to downtown, traffic around HOU is heavily affected by downtown commuters.

For me and my coworkers who are destined for NW Houston and/or Energy Corridor; YYC-HOU is a nonstarter.

As to you question about whether the bear is held back by WS going to HOU instead of IAH. Throughout FTC hearings and Justice Department actions regarding airline mergers, the FTC etal have always looked at markets from a city perspective and not airport perspective. If WS were to start YYC-HOU then I would expect UA-AC to apply to FTC to have the YYC-IAH route carve out restrictions removed. Included in the UA-AC application is the necessary documentation to support that IAH and HOU airport is a common market. WS is free to provide a rebuttal, based on past experience this rebuttal is unlikely to be accepted.

Stupid question, if one is booked on the following itinerary I would assume you can check through all the way back to YYC (being as it is all *A):

PHX-SLC (on US)
SLC-DEN (on UA)
DEN-YYC (on UA)

Also dear god is that going to be painful.

Edit: Oh crap, does the US/AA merger suddenly change the ability to check right through?

Amazing What a cold winter can do for the pax stats.

Before anyone questions the above statement over with regard to Domestic numbers, keep in mind that if international and transborder nonstop is filled up, then spill over onto domestic connection through YYZ/YUL/YOW is common.

Wait......back up a minute!

Amazing news!! Good for the people of the northeast. I will have to take a drive through it. A good side effect is that the shuttle to westwinds LRT station will be quick and convenient now.

So does this leave any mainline AC flights to the US from YYC? I realize these cities are largely leisure markets but is AC essentially giving up on any business revenue from these markets? Not sure if Rouge has any business class seats or type of service but by moving these routes to Rouge they are potentially giving up some of the business market to their competitors.

I suspect most (almost all) of the business traffic routes through:

1. Houston
2. Chicago - United operates the route AC codeshares and I think gets some the revenue
2. New York
3. San Francisco
4. Denver - United runs the route but AC codeshares and I think gets some of the revenue

Yes, EWR only.

Here is the A319 rouge seat map...

http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/fleet/A319-100rouge.html

There is a service called "Premium rouge" with 12 seats at the front.

They have 35in pitch but same width as economy... So not a very premium product.

29in pitch in economy is pretty tight... just like the LCCs in Australia, Jetstar and Tiger where they pack 180 people on an A320.

Crap not Yyc-lax. This is going to make connections to Singapore Airlines or air New Zealand much less desirable when in business.

They already dumped it 2x daily back in the fall, and it has been pissing me off to no end since the last departure is at 2:15 in the afternoon.

When I book I basically take for granted I am going to end-up going via YVR on rebooked on United.

They leave the middle seat unfilled, so armrests up.

Do YYC-SFO-XXX and use the UA mainline flight from YYC-SFO.
