Maybe they're most mad about the Global headline "YYC now the busiest in Canada"

It's almost a triple threat in that press release, like a) screw you, your high numbers are because of oil, b) screw you, your numbers are domestic and to us said numbers are emphatically inferior, and c) screw you, Turkish and Copa are coming.

I haven't verified, but have been told the GE110 is about the same size/diameter as the fuselage of a 737.

I can confirm this from when you could get up close to the threshold of 29 and an AC 77W was waiting to go between a United 738 and WestJet -700. The GE engine looked bigger, if anything.

They unfortunately have become a little mainstream here in CUN (sorry to rub that in to you hungry 787 folk) with 4 airlines now flying them in (Thompson, LOT, AeroMex and now JetAirfly) but they are a rather neat critter to see on the apron in front of one of the terminals.

And my god are they quiet on departure!

The source of ADM's set the record straight presser was in reaction to Montreal City Council debate on air service. A few of the councilors created a motion to have city council press Transport Canada and Air Canada provide more air service to YUL because the Councilors felt that YUL was underserved.

The council debate was along the lines of Federal govt is disparaging Montreal in favour of YYZ, YVR and YYC and this will have an impact on Montreal economy. This motion was pure unadulterated attempt at scoring political points by slagging Federal Gov't, Western Canada, those hicks in Calgary, Oil sands, Harper controlled agenda.

But as I am sure cyeg66 knows, no Quebec politician has ever lost an election because they disparaged the federal government or western Canada.

I was fortunate to see this very plane in final stages of assembly in Everett in early January. Too bad we couldn't take pics in the factory though.

Hi all, as I posted on another thread I'm potentially moving from the UK to Calgary later this year. I have read on this thread that BA's service from LHR to YYC is not doing so well. Is this true? Having a regular direct and affordable service from Calgary to London is a very important consideration for us. It'd be frustrating if we move to Canada and BA pull the route.

The NP article talks about WestJet pilots Town Hall that occurred last Thursday. In the Town Hall WS mentioned that widebody aircraft could be leased for a start date next year. This widebody aircraft lease would replace the Thomas Cook 757 operation and bring the work in-house. Additionally the widebody operation would provide for expansion into Europe vacation market.

Potential aircraft are 762ER, 763ER, 332, and 333.

Any widebody expansion requires agreement with the pilot group and new pilot employment contract.

My thoughts:
- This is the first public sign that WS management is looking at the AC Rouge 763 expansion as a very serious threat that AC could have the widebody visiting friends and relatives market sewn up if WS waits for 788 delivery spots.
- If you think YUL international expansion for 2014 is impressive with AC Rouge, wait until YYC new terminal opens with WS widebody operation on half dozen routes.
- WS widebody operation would kill off BA YYC-LHR and FI YEG-KEF-Europe services within 6-9 months.
- WS widebody operation would put a bullet into the notion that YYC new International Terminal is an overbuilt white elephant.

Does your YYC-London carrier have to be BA? Air Canada also flies to LHR, and Air Transat flies YYC-LGW.
