Got to listen to Paul Levy today from the Center City District. Looks like Dilworth Plaza is set to open (fingers crossed) by this September. Check out http://buildingphilly.com/dilworth-plaza-2112014/ for some pics and a little video of Paul speaking.

There will be grass... check out the renderings in the link! They will also be redoing LOVE Park and adding greenspace.

It's worth pointing out that this is the same Eric Blumenfeld who has so far failed to redevelop the Divine Lorraine (twice, I believe), the Met Opera House, and the school building at the NE corner of Broad and Spring Garden.

A development on this site has been talked about for years, and with his recent record, I wouldn't get my hopes up yet.

it seems like this isn't much more than an idea at this point. this is a blumenfeld quote from the article. "'I'm not sure the market is there yet.' Besides the construction plan, he's still working on financing: 'We'll start over the next couple of years. It could take seven or 10 years to build it all out.'"

On another note...the IBX building is looking good with the new Market Street entrance taking shape.

I don't think there will be an actual entrance on market. I think you'll need to enter the building from either 19th or the side entrance in the courtyard between 19th and 20th.

You know - I didn't even think to look for doors in this new setup. I just assumed they would replace an old entrance with a new one. Good point.

Yes , a nice 600' / 625' glass tower at that location would be fantastic . Just a shame that probably is not in the works . One of my favorites has always been the old Blue Cross bldg.
And now with it's new facade it looks even better . Rotate that baby 90 degrees and what a
complement to the skylines east / west axis .

Great article from 1988 on the construction IBX tower:
"Jackson said construction would begin soon on the second tower at 1919 Market..." Lol.

I just pulled up the Mayor's public calendar and this item is scheduled for Noon:

Mayor Nutter to unveil plan for major new development in Center City.

This could be the 16 and Vine development. Guess we will know soon.

$85m !! What a deal for a 45 story building

According to Mellon Stuart project manager Michael E. Preston, all-steel construction might have shaved about $1.2 million off the cost of materials for the $85 million building. But because of the speed of the slip-form process and the increase in usable floor space the slip-form method was determined to be more beneficial.

Good deal but . . . Philly's office market has been so anemic since then many buildings from that era would barely sell today for above their original 1980s construction cost (even ignoring inflation).

For example, I think 1835 Market was built for $70 million. What would it sell for today? Maybe not a whole lot more.
