I can't remember UAX RJ's being flown IAH-YYC. Even Jazz -705's rarely if ever have to make a fuel stop on the northern trek, unless they're being told they can expect to hold for 30+ mins. I'm actually quite surprised by their apparent legs.

As to EMB's being flown to YYC and YEG when flights appear to be fairly full, I hope it's not implied that mainline flying will be substituted with smaller a/c. Hopefully they are meant to supplement mainline during off peak hours.

Oh, and Leduc: get over yourselves. You're starting to sound like Sherwood Park, our other resident CofE leech. Want all the benefits at no cost to you...

If the ERJ replaces mainline on IAH, it would be quite disappointing. But maybe we end up with higher frequency and more seats...which is ok by me

AC never flew CRJ-700s, just CRJ-905s, along with CRJ-100/200s. But then again, the CRJ-905 is basically a -700 fitted with 75 or so seats (due to pilot scope clause) and a lower floor.

Close, the designation is actually -705 which is a -900 with about 75 seats. Actually quite nice on the interior. Go like stink, too.

Hi everyone - long time lurker, first time poster here. I fly several times per yet but have come across something that I'm unsure about so I'm wondering if any of you have any insight to help me.

I'm booking YEG-IAH-CUN-IAH-YEG in April, but I found out that booking each segment as a "multi-city flight" it comes out to be about $400 cheaper. All the flights are on United and I would be booking through their website.

My question is: can I get my bags checked straight through to CUN and then back again without having to pick them up in Houston? I would have about a 2 hour layover in IAH.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Last time I flew that route our bags were transferred straight to Cancun, we did have to re scan our carry on luggage though.

I'm guessing that by doing the multi-city booking that you will not be able to check your bag all the way through. Just a guess though.

^ The bags will be checked all the way through - depending how much layover you have in IAH.

That is my gut feeling too. If their call centre doesn't have a booking fee I would call and lay out the two situations, then ask them to book the through ticket at the other price. Just remember they can't hang up on you, so just be reasonable and eventually they will cave if you meet some resistance.

if he has to clear customs in houston he will need to collect his bags

i flew edmonton to houston last april, a late night flight - departed after 11 pm and got to houston 6 am, had to collect the bags, then go through customs, they do that whole body scanner thing there too

they made a number of people from the same flight open their checked baggage

people with tight connections were given priority

I don't understand, are you having to clear Mexico customs in Houston? US is pre-clear in YEG no?

...not sure why anything extra would need to occur in IAH

edit: oh maybe a time of day thing.

Not to add fire to the YEG AC debate but was informed the airline is looking at ''other'' proposals for the LHR slot.

Stated in the letter leaked by AC executives in the ''reason'' of suspension for the current months in place I have been told the airline is now in talks with YWG for the LHR slot (not on a daily basis).

YWG has in the past demonstrated a lack of support for the route (at least on a daily basis). It was somewhat profitable when AC operated the slightly smaller 767-200 on the route. But not enough to maintain the flight…

On a high note? A keen interest in YEG by BA who is now in the final stages of talks to add YEG to a existing routing to ''maximize'' route potential.

Although never said straight out I think we realize the YYC flight may soon have a tag on.

This is gonna get interesting, very soon.

^with BA's 787 coming soon to Cowtown, they've got a few extra butts they need to pack on each flight. I believe they have no choice but to get a bit more aggressive in Alberta if they want to remain a little longer.

Wholly unsurprised by AC looking to change their LHR slot. If they wanna leave money on the table and court YWG, I say buh-bye. This, perhaps, is hedging itself vs BA coming to town so I figure this development is perfectly legit. Safe to say they would fold like a cheap tent with a new entrant like BA....

^ AC can go and pursue whatever options they feel is necessary for that slot - frankly this is turning into a soap opera and I would prefer they just go and allow other airlines in to fill the void.
One other item. I do not want our federal government coddling, giving preferencial treatment or supporting AC in any way.

I would hate to see is loss non-stop service to LHR...BOTH ways. I am not interested in flying through YC on the return, clearing customs and then catching a smaller turbo prop on WJ or AC to YEG. Not happening for this traveller.

Any European or Canadian airline is free to operate flights between the UK and Canada. So there is no special treatment going on. The slots at Heathrow are extremely expensive and I don't blame AC for trying to get the most out of them.

I am reading this thread while at the Maple Leaf Lounge at YYZ. Will be flying YYZ-YQR-YEG. Had to book a last minute flight. There are no seats on AC from YYZ to YEG all day. Can you believe!!

The ticketing agent at YYZ said - I don't know why they keep flying smaller planes to YEG (referring to a bunch E195's flying the route on Sunday).

Bottom line - AC knows that if BA does enter the YEG market, they will be done at YEG. And frankly, they don't seem to care to serve the YEG market at an acceptable level.

So good riddance. BA will be welcomed at YEG - even if it is a tag on.

Comes down to AC not having enough metal domestically to fly bigger plans. LHR I get why AC is doing it; they are looking for the best ROI which and an airport like YWG is going to offer more incentive than YEG probably.

Who's kidding who, YWG would give anything to AC since it has no chance of landing a true international destination and keeping it without incentives. A brand new airport with nothing new to show for it in terms of flights.

I believe AC only cares for YVR, YYC, YYZ and YUL. All other markets are secondary and not worth fighting for in terms of non-stop flights. As soon as competition comes in to the secondary markets, AC leaves. This is especially true when the secondary airport gives no incentives (money, free advertisisng, etc.) such as YEG.

Maybe someone on the inside can confirm this but i believe AC's flight bookings to LHR have probably taken a hit from FI and AC is probably trying to cut its losses and move on to somewhere where they will face no competition.
