The Price Smart at Pinetree and Barnet that used to be a Save On Foods? If the new Station Square Save On Foods is similar in size to Madison Centre near Brentwood, that's a great size.

I wonder how a Silvercity opened in Mission then, urban population of 20,000 and district wide population of 40,000. Maybe they were planning to serve Abbotsford too just a 10-15 minute drive away, but now Abbotsford has its own Cineplex at High Street.

Two Cineplex theatres on the SkyTrain line was probably too redundant wrt market area.
The Silver City at Coquitlam (Schoolhouse) would probably prevent a Cineplex at Lougheed Mall, too.

Strange, looking at the Cineplex mapon Google, that there are no Cineplexes in downtown Richmond, downtown Coquitlam or downtown Surrey.

Thanks for the link to the Vancouver Sun article.
It also has some rendering about the mall. It actually is not that different from before.

Maybe the Homesense will move to Station Square and the combined store on Metropolis will become Winners only.

What year did it open? Cineplex's post-merger strategy is vastly different from the pre-merger chains' strategies.

Mission's Silvercity has enough (cheap) space for Cineplex's Famous upsell techniques (different food stalls, arcade) and the market area could be called as "underrepresented" in terms of entertainment.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mission is the one of the chain's lesser preforming cinemas (lacking a lot of Cineplex's new upsell strategies, Ultra AVX, Imax, D-Box, VIP ect) especially with the new Abbotsford complex.

New West doesn't have space for Cineplex's current strategy of promoting up sells (the most they could have done is an Ultra AVX screen or two), not to mention they still had Station Sq + Metropolis when Landmark went in.

There is still a lot of room for more theaters in the region though, with many in the pipelines/development (West Van, Marine, Brentwood, King George) and potentials (With increasing density along Evergreen line and continued development of Burke mountain, Coquitlam could get another one, and I've heard that North Van might add one via the Squamish Nation’s Seymour Creek reserve development, not to mention Surrey's market is largely fragmented)

Its going to be interesting to see if FutureShop re-enters Station Square with the big box model or if they are going in with the Futureshop.ca concept.

The sales office has a new painted outside wall advestising the upcoming 2nd phase project.
The 2nd phase building will be offered for sale in April. The building will have 48 stores with 434 homes.
Not sure whether this is the building that was originally planned to have 57 storeys.

I believe the second phase was supposed to include the tallest tower. That's quite the height reduction. Ah well. Maybe if sales go well enough they'll increase the height back to what was originally approved.

There's suppose to be a 48 story tower at the south end of the parkade site, so maybe they're changing things up a bit in order to introduce the tallest tower at a later date. I'm grasping here I think.

This means the tallest building in the development will be 52 storeys in phase IV (unless they eventually change that too).
Yeah, it was posted back in October...

More confirmation. Newest rendering from the website shows the reduction in height. Still an impressive development though:

I'm actually quite happy about the height reduction - there's nothing to indicate the design of these towers is anything better than average, which *ducks* I don't think is good enough when we're talking about pushing 200m. Even with the reduction, if anything it still looks disproportionately tall.

By Yellow Fever at SSC today:

The squares suggest there'll be an awning along the side alley.

Agreed. The design is OK, but nothing super-elegant, and what's the fuss about just a few floors, anyway?
I don't get this obsession with height. Downtown Vancouver, perhaps yes. But here in Metrotown I don't think it has the same relevance.

For what it's worth,, there will be a canopy amongst other "dressings" around the entire perimeter between the first and second levels. The tallest tower of the five towers has been reduced to 48 storeys but will still be taller than the Sovereign and Metroplace. Phases 2 and 3 will go together and share the same parkade structure.

There is a building in the background of the top pic above that looks to be a flatiron design. Is that correct please and what is "that" project called. Thanks.

So there won't be a 52 storey building in phase 4?

That's The Sovereign, which is a square floor plate not flatiron, and has it's own thread.

There have not been any announced changes to Phase IV, only Phase II.

Love metrotown

Metrotown is really starting to look like it's own major centre, it looks like the regions second downtown. Personally and this is an opinion I'm starting to like the skyline of metrotown more than downtown Vancouver.
