Been through DEN many times. The current nude o scope at the primary screening line regime has been in place for the past 2 years. TSA precheck gives travellers the ability to go through normal WTMD. Denver security configuration prevented the placement of nude o scopes at the end of each screening s checkpoint. Therefore one machine is used for tsa precheck while the other machine at the far right hand side is open to the public.

Avoiding the nude o scope is a fav past time of the frequent travel community. At DEN the regular WTMD lanes usually have longer line up than nude o scope version.

For me I do avoid the nude o scope for anything more than a few time per year. In the USA one can elect to opt out of the nude o scope experience. Warning for this contemplating the opt out method, it involves an intense pat down.

Today's AC850 B767 bound for LHR (C-GHLK) took a sharp turn over Saskatchewan and landed back at YYC

Anyone know if there was any validity to commentary about the nude o scope being some sort of potential health risk (for frequent fliers anyway)

They didn't even make a 360, just straight into 17R. That's got to be an overweight landing. AC 763 can jettison as far as I know, so maybe they dropped a few tons on the way back? (it got to about YQR)

Looks like they only got up to 28,000 feet. Last couple AC850's have gone to 310 and 330 (eastbound altitudes) Maybe they couldn't fully pressurize (or some other issue that would prohibit them climbing higher) and just kept going, talking to mx control or whoever, hoping they'd be able to sort it out but couldn't. Then probably crunched the numbers, and figured they couldn't make LHR at 280 so they came back. Flight is now showing as completely cancelled so... not a medical. I remember hearing BA102 a few weeks back had some problem and asked to stay at FL280, but they must have got it fixed cause they didn't come back.

Fin 657, built 1992. Quick CADORS check shows nothing of note in the history.

In my travels last year the nudie-scanners were pretty consistently broken at most of the airports I traveled through. I only got scanned once in the US all year at SAN where I also got a pat down because the image wasn't clear.

Not a fan, but I cringe when I think about the other copious carcinogens I have been exposed to over the years. And I would rather not be pawed on by one of those characters.

A couple of years ago in DEN, I saw some 20 something punk thought it would be cool to moon walk into the full body scanner. His little prank, backed up the line for about 15 minutes. Some people just don't get it.

the body dose from one of those scanners is about 1000 times less than you'll get from your 8 hour flight.

In the beginning there was two types of nude o scopes, Backscatter and Millimeter Wave (MMW). Backscatter has been discontinued over minor health concerns (mostly radiation that would affect TSA peeps but could also affect the frequent travelers. MMW other name is microwave and this is where the frequent travel community concern is located.

For me, the aversion to the nude o scopes is due to passive resistance to ever increasing security requirements. Going the opt out route is my pushback to an overly cautious security regime that will continue to implement new restrictions and procedures until the general public starts to significantly push back.

Nexus cards now grant Canadians access to TSA precheck and the TSA has allowed international flights to be eligible for TSA precheck. Most of my transborder travel is on UA so I don't have to worry about nude o scope any longer. If selected for additional screen at random, I can continue to go the opt out route. Only final hurdle is for the TSA to allow foreign airlines into the TSA precheck program or alter the program so that it is airline agnostic.

^^ That was actually part of my concern too. I don't really care about the nude o scope, but my concern was that something that I think was originally supposed to be if you were randomly selected or you failed the main detector is now 'the new normal'.

Haven't travelled much but last time I did in the U.S I opted out of the scan as well. And I will continue to do so in the future both as my small bit to protest but also due to health concerns. I'm not sure they are allowed to send minors through it either (correct me if I am wrong). I was travelling with my son at the time and they only asked me to go through the scanner 9which I declined to do). He went through the regular X Ray type machine.

Here is the CADOR from this event...

An Air Canada Boeing 767 200 (ACA850) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to London/ Heathrow (EGLL) returned to Calgary, AB due to a pneumatic issue. ARFF standing by. Landed safely. No other impact on operations.

Thanks for the update; Saturday's AC850 to LHR was also cancelled and some pax was re-booked to last night one; 2 cancellations in 3 days - not good. Can't see any upgrade of metal today either and they must be re-routing pax via other destinations.

Morningstar 757 is sitting in front of our building about 400 feet down runway 26 facing west. Strobes on. Ladder into the main cargo door on the port side. Guy on a ladder looking in the #1 engine.

Lets just say that flights are wide open on the transatlantic right now. lots of room available to all destinations, so no need for a replacement aircraft.

Yep, I'm not sure if the Souls on Board is in that CADORS, but there was plenty of room on that plane.

PS. Morningstar was doing an engine run and that's where the airport wanted him. Seeing as we don't use it for landings much it's a great piece of pavement for that as long as the jet blast stays away from the traffic circle!

Makes sense. They were tail east at first, then around 17:00 were in the same place but had turned around tail west.

I hope they work the new runway like YYZ so we get parallel arrivals. Pretty much my favourite thing to see as a passenger on my IAH and DFW trips. I imagine Encore will not want to taxi down to 35R for a YBR or YQR departure, for example... given the locations of the aprons somebody is gonna have some long taxi times in any config, really.

Air Canada's first 787 C-GHPQ moved to #5 position in the production line and next one to be born from that line. Also C-GHPT and C-GHPU lining up at the end of the line. (info courtesy of http://nyc787.blogspot.ca/)
