And for the record, what has been posted above is true. The SFPR was designed for 100kph not 80kph. It has been posted 80kph on purpose but according to the regulations and everything I've read and heard in regards to the SFPR, it meets 100kph design without issue.
The only reason they are getting away with 80kph right now are because of the intersections but as was posted before, the original design which didn't change for 95% of the entire highway, was to be a full freeway with full interchanges and 0 intersections. Heck they actually purchased all the land for the interchanges already.
So Tannery, Sunbury, Bridgeview, etc., they own all the land around it for the interchanges. And Old Yale (the 50kph stretch) is marked as a 'temporary' intersection meaning it is not supposed to be there just like the traffic light under the Port Mann right now.
So you can't say that is the norm if it isn't even supposed to be there. Anyone that has driven it knows 100kph is plenty fine on the entire stretch. Hell everyone does 100kph right now even the fully loaded container trucks that have no issue doing that speed.
