That's what I thought EP, that you were being sarcastic. I hadn't visited that thread in a couple of days, but enjoyed it last time I visited. I thought there were some excellent points made. I especially like the idea of tall being relative to the city itself. Anyway, it's too bad about the thread being closed, but there's always going to be a few who have difficulty playing well with others. I do wish the moderators would just delete the offending posts and issue a warning or temporary suspension to the offender. I still get upset when I think of how a non- local moderator closed the first City Creek Thread, when all that was needed was to delete a few stupid posts, and issue a warning to a couple of specific idividuals.

The closing of the old CCC thread was BS. We lost over 5000 posts and about three years of history due to a few stupid Mormon bigotry posts.

Amazing photos, T-Mac! Good to see everything moving along quick. The side walk on 100 South for PAC got all tore up quick!

Only thing that saddens me is the hotel going up by ESA. Rage I cannot describe...

Thanks T-Mac. We needed a good photo update since it's been kind of slow lately on here. Glad to see everything's moving forward. Amazing how it took crews a year and a half to build two levels underground.

Hey guys! So I've been stalking this forum long enough that I decided that I might want to make my own profile and put my own comments on here now and again. I'm an Urban Ecology student up at the U, and I was wondering if any of you guys got to go to the workshop for the new master plan for downtown SLC. It was this past week on Wednesday by the 9th south trax stop.

New Master Plan

Hi there Palladio, welcome to the forum...

So what is in the new master plan for Salt Lake City and where can we read about it or see the new updates?

Anthony

I went to the downtown master plan update at Local First.

They had several updates including the final draft of the the 9 line project, and a timeline for the downtown streetcar, (it's currently in the environmental assessment phase, pretty much deciding what the ideal route would be)

They then had several tables with discussion groups on subject was Population, and people had input on where people should live, and what other amenities like parks, shopping, entertainment etc.

Another discussion group was districts, what districts people currently see in downtown, and what districts they see in the future. This discussion explored how to differentiate the districts from one another, how to make them unique and destinations, and what types of retail housing etc should be in each district.

The third discussion group was diversity. I didn't make it to that one, but I think the discussion revolved around how to make the city more diverse, and how to accomplish that.

There were a few other interactive things to do, you could watch "My downtown" testimonials, or record your own. They also had comment card for us to fill out; "Downtown as a destination means_______" "Downtown as a neighborhood means____________"

The Local first building was packed with people and there was a very diverse group of ages and income groups represented. I was impressed with the turnout.

Welcome Palladio!

Great update, thanks T-Mac! I think it's great that you got those pictures of the 111 S and UPAC area before demo starts. It will be a good historical reference for when it's all gone. It will be interesting to compare photo's of that strectch of main before and after.

Seeing Salt Lake @... http://signaturebookslibrary.org/?p=19581

[p.44] Zion’s Cooperative Mercantile Institution (ZCMI) wagons in front of the Consolidated Wagon and Machinery Company, January 18, 1909. Although Utah had seen its first automobile by this time, horse‑drawn vehicles remained the primary mode of transportation in Salt Lake City. The Consolidated Wagon and Machinery building still stands on State Street, albeit without its elaborate façade, and houses Zim’s craft store. (Neg. 8923.)

[p.32] View looking northwest from the Boston Building at 351 South Main Street, April 30, 1908. The city’s business district at this time was a mass of brick buildings crowded together on the edges of various streets and alleys. The tallest building at the left is the Dooly Building at the corner of West Temple and 200 South; in the distance, near the center of the photograph, the roof of Westside High School is visible. (Neg. 8296.)

This building housed the Dinwoodey store from 1890 until the business closed in 1985. Today the building stands alone on 100 South between Main and West Temple streets, but a blank modern faςade has replaced the arches and windows seen in this view. (Neg. 22315.)

I spent some time last night trying to find the date of demolition, but I couldn't find anything. I'd love to get some video and pics of the dust clouds.

Funny story about the KeyBank Tower demo...
I had no idea about the City Creek project. I was eating out with my grandpa when I looked out the diner window and saw a giant ash cloud plume over downtown. After it cleared, the ugly building I had seen an hour earlier was gone. You can imagine what was going on in my head.

Random question of the wee hours of the morning...

Why is the 900 South exit on I-15 called the 900 South exit?? When truly it should be called the West Temple exit? It connects directly to, and becomes W. Temple! 9th south is merely a side street at the first intersection the road comes to. One can ride that exit clear to temple square downtown! Does anyone have any idea why this exit is called 9th South? Its like calling the 600 s. exit the 4th west exit because that is the first intersection the road hits.
