I don't have pictures but I wanted to give an update, of a couple of things I noticed yesterday.

The Air7 Center is working on demolition of the old two story brick house on 400 S. The entire back half has been demolished.

The first floor looks to be nearly framed on the Newhouse Apartments on 500 S across from Smith Marketplace.

This project looks larger in the rendering than i thought it would be. Does it extend on two sides of the street? And what street is that?

Thanks for the pic update on a rainy day!

It is not double the size. The rendering just shows the North Frontage on the left and the East frontage on the right. I think they wanted to show both because the mural is on the North side that does not face the street.

I walked past this place last night and I noticed that the historic houses to the north have not been demolished... Does this mean they are not being demolised and the new building is being built around them? If so, that's pretty cool.

The building is only being built to the south of the old homes. The land for the apartment complex was owned by one owner, and the old houses north of the project to the Viaduct are owned by a different owner. I believe the owner of the homes that are still there also owns the large lot east of the homes and behind the new apartment complex. I think that owner wants to also develop the land., so those homes will probably be demolished also. It is in the Gateway zoning area.

Might have been nice to have sorted this all out before construction of the green line and North Temple Front runner station to avoid redundancy of 2 intermodal transfer stations 2 blocks apart and currently virtually useless 2 station trax spur to SL Central. Maybe down the line the SLC Cental Trax will be part of a downtown loop, but for now SL Central is superfluous. Lots of money was spent on the viaduct and two transit stations (which look really nice, and facilitate easy connections) but having all lines go through SL Central would have been the way to go IMO.

Demolition has begun on the former Goodyear building at 4th South and West Temple for the AIR7 project.

The 2 story house is now a pile of rubble.

Would have been simpler and probably cheaper, but I kind of like having two main stations downtown. It makes things very streamlined. People coming north get off at central, and people going north get on at north temple. No huge traffic jams on the platforms. That is true Disney-grade efficency.
But yes, central station needs the traffic from a downtown loop and TOD before it can really earn its name 'central'.

It may have been slightly cheaper but possibly not. They would have had to build a viaduct for the Trax tracks, over the freight and Front Runner tracks. The railroad won't allow a cross section on their tracks.

I was however always in favor of a 600 W alignment rather than the N. Temple alignment. There are a couple of upsides to the N. Temple route though. It does provide a faster link to the CBD as opposed to connecting through Central Station. The second is the HUGE potential for the surface lot that sits adjacent to the east of the N. Temple Front Runner stop.

The developer building apartments at 50 S. 600 W. now owns every house on the block. The larger parcel behind those homes is owned by UTA as is the parcel on the NE corner of North Temple and 600 West. I would not expect any of those homes to be around very long as both property owners are anxious to develop the property.

In other news, expect to see 2 buildings demolished in the near future on the SE corner of 500 South and 300 East just south of the new Public Safety Building. The owner of the property has submitted for demolition permits for a building on 300 East and a building on 500 South. The developer anticipates building 119 apartments in a 6 story structure.

Those are a few things I hadn't thought of. Surface parking and the need to cross the UP ROW.

Another high ranking for Salt Lake City. We get a lot of appearances on these lists. As a small business owner here, I agree with this assessment.

Awesome! That seems like a great location for it.

Great to see LaPorte rising above ground finally. Keep up the great updates DCRes!

Wow, It seems like Salt Lake City can't seem to build enough apartment units fast enough lately.

This is unrelated to this thread, but do any of you know why the "How Tall Is Tall?" thread was closed? I know there was a small bit with bunt_q and another user, but I really wanted to continue the conversation.

Don't bring your none related, closed forum drama onto this thread. ;-P Its clear any forum that compares cities, building, etc...results in a battle of egos and I don't want this thread closed because of it.

Okay. I wasn't trying to bring any drama. I wasn't sure where to ask, so I came here. It's unfortunate, I was having fun with the discussion. I liked hearing what you all had to say.
