It's a definite upgrade for both YEG and YYC.

Nolinor formerly operated for DHL on a BFI-YYC-YEG routing using a smaller 737-200F.

This flight originates at DHL's sorting hub in Cincinnati and uses a much larger 767-200F operated by ABX Air (wearing full DHL colors).

It's a definite bump for YEG and YYC freight numbers.

And no loss of any other cargo flights for neither city other than the Nolinor flight being up gauged and handed to another operator.

^ well...other than the fact that 767 will originate from YEG and that less cargo will be hauled by trucks to YYC, DHL has been serving the YEG market for many years...so, there won't be a huge impact on FedEx's business.

What used to be trucked, now it will be loaded at YEG.

Same can apply to if and when UPS decides to send their planes up here.

I saw this plane parked at gate 14-ish (maybe 12) today on the YEG live cam. I thought maybe something had gone wrong.

WestJet To Expand Encore Across Canada

WestJet Airlines is looking to expand its regional subsidiary Encore just five months after its launch, plotting a push beyond its western Canada base to offer service across Canada and potentially into the United States in 2015. The regional carrier, launched in June with aggressively priced fares to compete with larger rival Air Canada, has exceeded expectations, WestJet chief financial officer Vito Culmone said on Tuesday.

"You'll see us expand Encore," Culmone said at the Scotiabank Transportation and Aerospace Conference in Toronto. "We'll be in Ontario next year, in 2014, and we'll be nation-wide by 2015 and possibly even into the US markets by the end of 2015."

Reporting better than expected results earlier this month, WestJet said Encore was flying full planes and beating targets. Encore currently operates with six aircraft, but that will grow to eight by year-end and 16 next year. Culmone also said WestJet's new tiered ticket fares, launched in August, could be on the high end or exceed 2014 revenue forecasts for CAD$50 million - CAD$80 million (USD$48 million - USD$76 million). Canada's number two airline also said on Friday that it would make its first trans-Atlantic flight next summer, offering daily, non-stop flights to Dublin from St. John's, Newfoundland with a Boeing 737 aircraft. That likely represents the first stage of a longer-term plan to extend service over the Atlantic, Raymond James analyst Ben Cherniavsky wrote in a research note. That could bite into business for Air Canada's discount carrier, Rouge, which also serves Dublin and certain European cities, he wrote.

WestJet's Dublin plans are "insignificant" Air Canada's chief executive, Calin Rovinescu, said in a separate presentation at the transportation conference. He said Encore is "not a factor", but Air Canada was working to reduce its costs as Encore ramps up.

The one downside is we lost another 732 operator in Nolinor. Or are they still operating into YYC/YEG with their bird on another contract?

I think the reason there is no mention of the switch up by anyone is likely because it's just a capacity increase? However EIA made a rather large deal FedEx adding a A310F up from a 752F on the MEM flight...

Still puzzles me that UPS doesn't have direct service to YEG, there were talks of a link but for now still nothing other than a few connecting Metroliners from YYC on behalf of UPS.

But I agree with big time that big yellow bird must be quite the site on departure, not to mention 762's are becoming somewhat rare nowadays.
We don't even get the pleasure of seeing that yellow in CUN, we just get a DC-9F operated by a local carrier with small DHL titles on the side in a dull white scheme that operates to and from Mexico City.

That's interesting, however on the 18th it shows it routed back through YYC. Is this something we could see change daily based on cargo loads?

tuffyy stop complaining lol. You got a LOT 787 a week or two ago. I haven't found any pics except for a crappy YouTube video. Was there even a water cannon salute?

UPS made a huge investment in the Calgary area and sending their own metal to YEG undermines the commitment they made to Calgary.

I can see why UPS is somewhat reluctant to send their own metal to YEG. but it really stinks that YEG has a crappy inbound service as far as UPS.

But UPS knows that their service to the Edmonton area suffers....Try sending an express document from the US to Edmonton. They can only guarantee afternoon delivery. And from Edmonton to US, you get the early afternoon cut-off time for overnight shipments to the US/International. So FedEx gets a lot of business that way on UPS's expense.

Lol, we now have three airlines running 787's to CUN (Thomson, Aero Mexico and LOT) They have unfortunately (to me) become a kind of normal sight.

I'm sure Bigtime would like to slap me for that.
