Okay, help me out here. I have lived in YYC for 35 years and am wondering why I can't go more than a page in this airport thread without a comparison of YEG to YYC? I really don't care about what's really going on in the YYC airport thread but I do notice that the regular posters in that thread aren't comparing their YYC airport concerns to the YEG airport in nearly the same regularity as regular YEG airport thread posters are to the YYC airport.

This almost too regular YEG-YYC comparison in this thread almost make it a comical read - why can the regular YEG airport posters just not concern themselves with YEG and not worry about YYC? What gives?

Probably because too many people from Edmonton are still choosing to drive and fly to YYC. And sometimes not by choice: flights out of YYC can be cheaper, plus airlines and the travel agents in Edmonton still insist on funneling people through there.

Why are you on here? We have regular posters like Bigtime and Cage chirping in? And posters here compare YEG to YYZ YVR YUL etc. If it bothers use don't read the Edmonton threads.

The worst is the Alberta Motor Association. I think there are due for some local education and mindset re-programming.

If you don't think it's valid comparing YEG's need for a future parallel runway based on its current operations with YYC finally having its needs met based on its current operations, then perhaps you're spending too much time focusing solely on the YEG vs. YYC aspect of the discussion rather than the actual subject matter being discussed. In this case, were it Ottawa airport having a parallel being built, then the discussion would be YEG vs YOW. Incidentally, only YYC is currently having a parallel built (not just in Canada but in N. America, I believe) so for the immediate future, you'll have to stow your dislike for the YEG vs YYC comparison and return to the cozy confines of the YYC thread.

Yes, for the last 10-15 years AMA has pushed the use of YYC. Their advertising in Edmonton highly promotes connections through Calgary

That and AC. We actually cancelled our membership because of that a few other concerns.

A couple of you are quite amusing - no where did I say I disliked the comparisons nor did I say it bothered me. I was just trying to get some clarification which I did get but being so thinned skinned about my inquiry - c'mon. The comment about what I might think the validity is of YEG's need for a parallel runway - wow, that really came out of left field, nothing like making a humongous assumption, eh.

Anyhow, thanx for the replies as they sort of give me a bit of an idea as to why the two airport threads feel so different and in actuality I find the YYC airport thread quite comical as well - people peeing themselves over what most would consider such trivial things.

You're funny. You take time out of your very busy day to post in another city's thread that discusses strictly airport/aviation, which you apparently find "comical" and "trivial", then remind us how you don't care for YYC's thread either because it's equally comical. Ummm, question for you? Do you post in the thousands of other threads for which you care nothing about their content? Isn't that a little strange? If you fail to see why YEG (about 15-20 yrs behind YYC in terms of airport development) isn't oft compared to the latter as its nearest benchmark (yes, they're ranked #4 and #5 in Canada) both geographically and numerically, then I guess I fail to comprehend your original question. I know, I'll go on the (city 🞵🞵🞵) thread, point out the fact I'm from (city YYY), ask an innocuous question that may irk some of the posters, and then remind them how I don't actually care... Strange. Glad you got your answer, though.

"Thinned (sic)-skinned." Ahhh, the wonderful anonymity of the internet. S'cuse me while I go pee on myself.

For the record, I'm a booster for both, but your insinuation is puzzling to me.

Actually I've been a lurker in many western Canada city threads/forums and have even posted in the Edmonton one a few times. I only wanted a clearer understanding of why no different than I've been keenly watching your arena thread because that's something hat's probably on the horizon in Calgary. No insinuation meant at all even though some took it that way - just an honest inquiry because I'm not the av-geek that many are but did notice something that looked odd to me and would probably look the same way to any other member who's not an av-geek or pro-YEG booster. I am interested in all sorts of things related to the development of western Canada and Edmonton falls into that realm - please let me know how you think I should've made my YEG inquiry without ruffling a few feathers.

Dunno, it's gonna be close! Which way will it go? I think we'll fall just a tad short (about 30k) but still pretty darn close. We'd otherwise need to see greater than 7% growth in each of the last two months to make it.

DHL has upgraded its cargo flights to both YYC and YEG by launching a new Mon-Fri CVG-YYC-YEG-YYC-CVG flight using a ABX Air 767-200F.

Not a peep from EIA about it... Hmmm.

Service started yesterday.

Is that a typical route or did we lose a nonstop?
